I admit I bought the book because of the reviewers's claim that the menus 'average out at about £30 a week for a family of four' including organic meat (2007 prices). I wish.

Yes the meals I made were delicious, yes the recipes are clearly laid out and easy to follow, nor do you have to be a trained chef to follow them but when I got the book, the costings were made for evening meals only, and for only five days out of the seven.

I would still recommend the book for its recipes and costcutting tips but
treat the reviews quoted with caution.

A thumbs up for the section on school lunches: some commonsense tips on what to put in the sandwich box so that it will be both edible and nutritious. On the whole a good buy

5.0 out of 5 stars Weeds please, 23 Feb 2009

A dark, pacy, comedy that repaid the cost of the boxed set. Well written, it never slackens pace, and the characters are fully developed and varied. My favourite is Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), difficult, emotionally abusive, and doesn't give a damn about anyone else. Such is the skill of the writing and the acting, you do like this unlikeable woman.

The story centres around Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) an attactive widow and mother of two, who decides the way out of her financial difficulties is to sell weed. She is on a steep learning curve as she graduates from small time dealer to substantial grower, dragging her reluctant family with her. Her 'success' comes at a cost to herself and her family, and much of the interest lies in how this is shown. Nancy herself abandons one principle after another in order to survive, as she attracts unwelcome competition.

If I have a criticism, it is the implication that while dealing weed might be harmful to your health, smoking it in large quantities is not. While there is a reasonably balanced discussion on the disc, it is more than counter balanced by the grow your own tips. Modern strains aren't just higher in their strength, but are also proportionally lower in the protective anti-psychotic chemicals the plant produces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metallic thread embroidery design, 20 Sep 2008
Although a showcase for Kreinik's products, the book is a treasure trove of mainly needlepoint designs. The illustrations are clear, and so are the instructions. There is something for beginners and adepts alike.
Projects range from samplers and mobiles to charming pouches and a beautifully ornate Christmas stocking.
The designs vary from delicately shaded pieces like the Dragon Fly to the cheerfully colouful Patchwork Girls which would make charming gifts.

Each design is from a different contributer, ensuring there is something for everyone to like.

Loved the hot keys of which there are eight, and the illuminated board is great in poor lighting conditions, but the keys are unresponsive, especially the space bar. This means I spend a great deal of time going over the text putting the spaces back in.

A how to guide to a number of needlemade laces including tambour,Carrickmacross Irish, Princess, and filet laces. Tatting and reticella lace are also covered.
The diagrams are large and clear, and the instructions easy to follow.

Very much an introduction. Clear enough but all you get to learn is hello, what's your name, how are you and goodbye. If you are serious in your study, then look elsewhere. No good for BSL Level 1 for example.
