5.0 out of 5 stars window alarm yl-323, 9 Nov 2013

I bought one of these last year and they are very easily installed devices - they give off a piercing alarm should anyone enter -
It is of course possible for a thief with good nerves to disable it on entering but the noise should deter them.

Easily put together but not supplied with a 30 metre lead. Everything went ok until I realised there is no sign of the oil level in the optic despite it being full - there seems to be no remedy for this problem. If the oil feed is not working then the chain will not last long which means the tool is a bit useless.

Stonewall Jackson
Stonewall Jackson
by James I. Robertson Jr.
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £42.00

5.0 out of 5 stars stonewall jackson, 26 Jun 2013
This review is from: Stonewall Jackson (Hardcover)
Thomas Jackson who became 'stonewall jackson' was an unlikely cadet at west point, but with tenacious studying he managed to graduate.
He didn't like or respect any of his peers except Robert E Lee. He made mistakes as at White oak swamp and his one weakness was that he needed a lot of sleep.
None of his subordinates liked him much either but he became the man he was eventually to be revered by his tenacity and his ability to drive himself and his armies. A hardly recognised General - usually with his cap down over his eyes and covered in dust he commanded a strange sight to many who expected a more distinguised person.
His main objectives were to disrupt union supplies by rail or water/sea in the Shenendoah valley/Washington.
Had it not been for Stonewall the union army would have taken Richmond much earlier - but he helped in 'rattling' George McLennan
so much that Lincoln relieved him.
Eventually to be shot by 'friendly fire' - a great loss to the confederates who were never going to win the war but Stonewall did his best to slow it down.

This is one of the best biographies I've ever read.
A story of a man who was one of the greats - like all the great soldiers he took risks, was sometimes insufferable, could be vain, could be ruthless, could be kind.
He transformed Japan, instead of heaping humiliation on them he did his best to heal the wounds and introduce democracy to an archaic dynasty - he succeeded. He insisted on women having the vote amongst others.
He saw the pacific/Japan/Phillipines war as the main theatre when all along the main focus had to be Europe - after all did the Japanese really threaten world peace like the Nazis? - taking in the vastness of the pacific. That was because he knew the Phillipines and loved them - his father was a General there before him. His father was also an American civil war hero - McArthur never forgot that.
For his eternal credit he saved countless lives by not confronting the Japanese but avoiding confrontation and occupying nearby islands
building bases and airstrips. The Japanese were looking for all out war on the beaches but McArthur avoided that.
The Japanese would after say this constantly frustrated them.
Always at odds with the chiefs in Washington and after FDR - Trueman.
He found the navy irksome to his efforts.
One wonders what he might have been like given Supreme command of Europe ?
And then Korea - the dividing line still stands.

My Manor: An Autobiography
My Manor: An Autobiography
by Charles William Richardson
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars My Manor, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good insight into the London underworld.
Charlie was obviously an intelligent criminal but seemed to be constantly phased about the lack of fairness in the justice system - seems that he thought he could get up to anything and just get a big slap on the wrists. Like the Krays - people were by then totally fed up with them all.

Don: The Life and Death of Sam Giancana
Don: The Life and Death of Sam Giancana
by William Brashler
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars the life of Sam Giancana, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good insight into the life of a Mafia boss - probably the wrong boss as he was too hot tempered to be discreet - that's probably why he got 'wacked'
