4.0 out of 5 stars Let's read just the first page.. and the rest, 30 May 2013
Initially I thought it would be the usual kind of story, which I guess it is in a way.. boy and girl meet.. they feel a spark.. they play around.. but they can't get serious because of something holding them back.. but they fall in love.. and then the truth comes out.. and you see how they get their 'happily ever after'. In a nut shell.

And usually I get frustrated at why this 'secret' wasn't just out in the open from the start.

But I understood why Dani, the lead female, felt she had to hide it. And of course Matt, the male lead will fit to be most women's dream man.

Overall it was a great read. And I finished it in about 3-4 hours, I couldn't put it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Author.. Same Chick-lit, 25 April 2011
some reviewers have said how the story compares to a mills and boon novel, and i guess it kind of does, yet so do most other chick-lits..

but Ellie Somerset isn't your typical M&B heroine though, she doesn't live for or around Jack Wolfe; her social-life isn't relationship-dependent.. and she doesn't forget the other people in her life because of her 'male friend'. and Jack is a great mystery, however the story doesn't tax your brain too much.

the funniest character had to be Edith, whose really quirky and easily lovable..

the story is much longer than M&B's typical 119 pages, even if the ending was comparable to a M&B.. but we all love a feel-good :)

5.0 out of 5 stars What Fairy Tales Don't Tell You.., 21 April 2011
This review is from: To Marry a Prince (Paperback)
It's the easter break and i love my chik-lit... and as the royal wedding is so very near, i liked the look of 'To Marry A Prince'.. it's every girls dream.. except feeling out-of-touch of the world and being found by a gorgeous man in the middle of a heap of a mini-natural disaster...

it's cinderella featuring snow white and little of maybe sleeping beaty but with a 2011 twist(with the aid of our ever-evolving technology)and more perspective..

Bella is a main character we can relate to and prince charming -i mean Richard- is a great male lead.. Lottie and George are funny and loveable.. there also are many other eccentric but believable charcters, who have thir qualities and other traits but you still love them except for two...

it was great read and i read in 2days :)

Take A Chance On Me
Take A Chance On Me
by Jill Mansell
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.29

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Jill Mansell.. Of course it was good, 11 April 2011
This review is from: Take A Chance On Me (Paperback)
Bought it for holiday read... and i loved it!!.. admittedly not as funny as 'Rumour Has It' or sensitive as 'To The Moon And Back' but the story was engaging and i love how the characters are quite quirky, as they always are in Mansell's books.

i have to also say though, i'm always dissapointed that the main characters seem to only get together at the end of the book.. till then it's just the sparks and tension between them :(

oh well... it was a great holiday read

1.0 out of 5 stars i didn't even finish it the first time!, 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: Welcome to My World (Paperback)
i liked how each chapter started with harriet in the cubicle, in the present tense.. about the only thing that kept me reading the first time, second time it was sheer determination!

i just think it got too narrative (the irony of it!) when it went back to explain how it all went wrong.

i didn't particularly warm to harri much.. she seemed like a bit of a bridget jones to me in places.. and her boyfriend Rob should have been chucked very near to the start of the story!

and it seemed a little rushed to get to the happy-ending in the last chapter.

i'm sorry but it was probably my worst-ever read.. :|

5.0 out of 5 stars Hillarious, even if a little predictable, 26 Mar 2011
i love films about concieving.. call me wierd but it's hillarious how that whole journey of pain, anticipation and care is depicted in a film, to make it seem so rosy, because you can't get it right in a rom-com!!

and of course Alex O'Loughlin looks OMG.. great!!

however, it was a little predictable, so it's the kind of film where you're not allowed to think so much because then you won't find it funny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow-going in places... a lot like reality then, 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: Love Always (Paperback)
i'll be honest.. i bought this book because the cover looked interesting.. and it's physically a big book, so i thought it'd last me a while.

it wasn't necessarily a book which i couldn't put down. like one of the other reviewers said, the story is at it's best in 1963. it looses it's thread in the present tense..

Natasha isn't exactly a very appealing main character, but to be fair, she was very realistic and easy to relate to.

this story was more about family secrets than romance, so at first i was dissapointed but the story of the kapoor family is intriguing. and i have to admit, i hadn't anticipated that big reveal about natasha's grandmother!

5.0 out of 5 stars i'm going to have to buy another book..., 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: To The Moon And Back (Hardcover)
i've read Jill Mansell's 'Rumour Has It' and absolutely loved it, so when this came out i ran to the shops to buy.. it was supposed to be my holiday read as i'm off on holiday next week. however i finished reading 'To the moon and back' last night..

i, pain-stakingly, made it last 3 days... but i couldn't put it down! and had resoluted to limit myself to 3 chapters a day.. that evidently didn't work out!

i love how Jill Mansel weaves the lives of friends and family together so it feels like ur imagining a series of friends or neighbours or something... Ellie is a loveable character, and Zack ever the alpha male!

all i need to do is go buy another book for next week.. might have to buy two...

if you want a book that fully immerses you, then definitely pick up a book by Jill Mansell! and 'To the moon and Back' is great for love lost, found and how to move on.

5.0 out of 5 stars My cover was different!!, 26 Mar 2011
This review is from: The Splendour Falls (Paperback)
the book cover of my book is different to the 1 shown here, but i did buy it from ASDA... and luckily i don't judge a book buy it's cover!

the blurb was interesting... like every YA the overall romance story was ever-original.. (NOT!) but with the magic, history-which is loosely based on facts and the fantasy world of ghosts- it was different.

i read a few of the reviews just now, and i guess i haven't got much more to add.

i still don't really understand how the title fits.. maybe i missed something..? but it was a great read

FYI teenagers do use the endearment 'love'; and not just the welsh ;)

Rumour Has It
Rumour Has It

4.0 out of 5 stars Laugh Out Loud - Literally!, 23 Jan 2011
This review is from: Rumour Has It (Paperback)
The story has many interlinked stories of several characters, which flow harmoniously.
Sometimes it was frustrating, as the main character's (Tilly) story seems to lack a little something.. her romance is a little flat.
However, I didn't realise that untill afterwards as it has many LOL moments that keep you distracted but it is a heart-warming story, with a variety of stories within it.
I read it in one night as I couldn't put it down, nd plan on reading more of Jill Mansel's works.
