Learn Italian In 7 Days!: The Ultimate Crash Course to Learning the Basics of the Italian Language In No Time

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality - must be better ones out there, 3 Nov. 2014
I believe this is a self-published book, printed by Amazon. And it shows, as there are spelling mistakes all over the place ("most of them belong to the firts conjugation" etc), as well as a feeling of it not being checked for how it reads.

For instance, in one short paragraph, the phrases "null-subject language", "grammar permits an independant clause", "lack an explicit subject", "gender agreement on the verb", and "rendering a subject noun phrase redundant" all appear. - I may be thick, but I don't understand any of this. But the book assumes you do, and offers no explanation.

I've given up on the book, as it feels like you need to be a genius with other languages to get the most of it. And therefore what I don' understand is all the 5 star reviews this is getting.

However, in saying that, if you persevere I guess it will teach you a few things. Hence the 2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very good, 5 Jun. 2013

I don't know how he does it, but this is seriously better than anything else I've tried, including years at school!

You find yourself able to form sentences that you haven't learnt, instead of just practicing the same old lines. And because you can do this, you impress yourself and so want to learn more (there's nothing worse than not seeing any progress).

Thanks Paul!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great spur for would-be writers, 17 April 2013
This review is from: On Writing (Paperback)
This book, if you are an aspiring author or just interested in all things King, is very illuminating and interesting. I've read it a few times now, as it's just easy-reading (it's a fairly small book for King).

Well worth it.

It's a proper classic of the genre. If you are in to old school effects, then this won't disappoint you at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bah. Not worth the money., 27 April 2012
This review is from: Choke (Paperback)
I've read a few of his works, and to be honest he doesn't bowl me over in the slightest. I think anyone over 21 years old would agree. His supposedly maccabre themes and disallusioned, alienated characters (to me) just seem childish and for effect. You can't just write about "cool" characters, you have to have a decent story I'm afraid.

My biggest problem with it is probably the entire hook - i've never heard of anyone being responsible for someone after saving their life. That's just stupid.

But buy it and see what you think. You certainly won't be saying it's your favourite ever read. I gave my copies away after one read. i suggest you buy second hand if you do want to buy it.

Closing argument:
When the film is better than the book (in the case of fight club), what does that tell you about the book? It should always be the other way around. And fight club is his best book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scutch chisel review, 15 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For the price, this is a real bargain.

I used it to help chisel out walls for a re-wire, and it went through blockwork (and hard sand & cement) much easier than a simple bolster. Also much easier to get a nice finish as you can square out the holes for the backboxes much more intricately.

Definitely worth being in your toolbox.

Just beware, if you buy from Amazon, it comes in a appallingly large box for such a small item. Seriously, it won't fit through the letter box in the slightest, unless your letterbox is about 50x30x20cm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like talking to a plumber!, 28 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is fantastic. It covers a large range of plumbing issues and discusses them all in straight-forward language.

For the price, you really can't go wrong.

I think I'll find myself referring back to this plenty of times.

In saying that, this won't teach you the skills to be a plumber. I.e. it doesn't go into length about how to solder or use a compression fitting (although it covers what they are and why and how they are used). But I didn't buy the book for that. This book provides lots of pointers (how to unblock pipes, move trapped air in pipes, strip a tap, etc) and allows for easy identification of plumbing mechanics such as different types of heating systems.

Definitely 5 stars for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally sublime in parts, but also too long in parts, 11 Oct. 2011
This review is from: It (Paperback)
'It' is a fantastic novel. There is simply no getting away from it. I believe that it shows Stephen King to be - at times - a writer of genius (in particular towards the end when various timelines intersect), more so than any of his other books.

However, the one gripe I do have is that I believe there is a case for a bridged version. Despite reading it 5 years ago, I can clearly recall several large passages in the book (ie 50-page back stories) which really dragged and could have been condensed. I'm guessing that the publishers were happy to let King roam free at the time.

The book does not contain King's common "flaw" of rushing an ending in about 2 pages (read The Stand if you want a 1400 page story to finish in one paragraph!), which is nice.

I recommend this book. Just be aware that it is an extremely long novel (the one I had was 1100 pages of extremely small type).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to writing comics, 28 Jun. 2011
If you're reading this review, you must at least be interesting in writing comics, or even just comics in general. And this book won't disappoint. It covers everything you might need, with real-life examples (including of formatting). Also has an introduction by Stan Lee, which is always a good thing!

I found that it complements the other books in this series very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dexeryl Eczema cream review, 3 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Dexeryl Cream 250g (Personal Care)
Nothing "cures" eczema. There is no cream on the planet today that can cure it, otherwise everyone would be using that cream and nothing else.

Having said that, this cream is the best I've tried (and I've tried a good selection) for keeping skin hydrated for longer. And it's a blessing it's not greasy (which can stain clothes). This is all you can ask for in a emollient.

However, emollients do seem to be a personal choice. Some I've used and don't get on with are touted as being brilliant for other people. All you can do is try each one, and also don't be disappointed if it doesn't "cure" your eczema.

Good luck.
