5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 5 stars no doubt, 23 April 2002
this film was excellently portrayed, beautifully acted, funny, moving, and any other words you can think of to describe a truly magnificent film.
Hanks is first class as is all other actors playing their characters, the characters in turn are also second to none but that would be the credit to the amazing Stephen King. The special effects are quality and there is no weaknesses throughout the whole film. A masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent spooky chiller, 5 Jan 2002
I was a bit unsure about The Others as it sported a '12' Certificate, but I found out something that I've never seen before.
Just because of it's 12 certificate it doesn't mean that the film doesn't spook you onto the egde of your seat. It has no bad violence or bad language and that opens up the world of horror to a younger audience.
The Others wouldn't rank up with the real horrors of late (gorewise) e.g the Scream series of films and Stephen King novels transformed onto the silver screen with an '18' rating, but The Others provides spookiness, it deceives the audience into what the real identities and truths of the characters are, and that real does contribute to this enchanting thriller.
Set in a haunting house in a foggy island off England, solid performances by Kidman and the adding trio of housekeepers and gardeners, and realistic shows by the children ensures that this haunter ranks up with the best of 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars best rock n roll album ever, 30 Dec 2001
This review is from: Is This It? (Audio CD)
everyone on a music message board were recommeding this cd so i bought it, and i haven't regretted it since.
After i listened to it twice i still couldn't realise what all the fuss was about, what made this album different from all the rest? then i listened to it for a third time and then the raw rock n roll NYC sound clicked in and i became hooked on the great lyrics, the fantastic guitar lines and the rhythm of it all, the album is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Matthews Band are back and better than ever, 29 Oct 2001
This review is from: Everyday (Audio CD)
Electric Guitar. The might and power of latin, in some parts strumming and note work on an Electric Guitar - Thats all I have to say to sum up this album.
The E. Guitar is used a whole lot more than DMB have used it on any previous albums, and it brings enjoying listening in abundance.
The opening lyrics come into songs when you don't expect, the guitar is introducing the track with fantastic notes being intimately and forefully fed from the strings, and bang - in comes Dave Matthews with his distinct, sometimes raspy rock vocal.
And the songs are not at all predictable, many good rock songs go off in a different direction for a verse/chorus or so after the first 2 choruses to provide the listener something different, but not here. The good parts of the songs come early, after one chorus or the first verse.
Dave Matthews Band music has that edge that I've never heard before in music.
Dave pounds out the vocals at the tops of his voice in some tracks, then on others he lets the words come out in a relaxed and smooth style, such as the intimate but by far the best on the lp - The Space Between.
'I did it' gets the superb album off to a blasting start with vocals at top notch and e. guitar being pushed to the full.
'When the world ends' starts quietly but then transforms for the chorus sounds off loudly with the rasping vocal of DM.
Dreams of our fathers is a feel good song with a great overall beat and tune to it, 'So right' uses latin style e. guitar so start off and before you notice it Dave Matthews is in pouring his heart into his lyrics.
If I had it all uses acoustics to a fantastic result and proves the DMB can do anything they want with songs.
This American alt rock album is well worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy them live, 29 Oct 2001
This album is very good no doubt about that, but Counting Crows are a live band. They are best that way.
In studio albums such as this one, the music all goes too fast, Adam Duritz's lyrics go quickly and the tune is left behind.
In their live 2 Disc Across a Wire CD Duritz slows Mr Jones slightly and just takes more time and puts out down parts and higher notes in his voice and it sounds alot better. Live, C.C. fiddle around and make better versions of the songs you hear on this album, just because they have taken their time and thought out ways to improve a song and make it sound more tuneful with bridges and all sorts.
This album is good, Adam Duritz's voice is excellent, but lyrics come and go quickly, if you want lyrics that really get through to you then buy Across a Wire (live in New York).
