5.0 out of 5 stars The right mix..., 25 Nov. 2011

If you're an anime fan, you have to watch this. Soul Eater has the right amount of comedy and action in it for this to be a firm favourite. It's also got a unique premise; people who transform into Weapons.

The characters are amazing in this series. Two of my favourites being Lord Death and Excalibur. All the characters in this series are endearing, a feat not normally accomplished by many anime.

The art style takes a lot of inspiration from several paintings and there is an even balance of complexity and simplicity.

All in all, buy it!!

Level Up!: The Guide to Great Video Game Design
Level Up!: The Guide to Great Video Game Design
by Scott Rogers
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, 4 July 2011
Even after I went on a university course for game design I still found this to be packed full of things I didn't necessarily think of straight away. It gives advice on every topic imaginable, from basic enemies to music ideas. Where examples are needed, examples are given. There are illustrations as well as sample documents from Scott's work.

It's also entertaining and easy to read. Larger and more complex terms are given definitions and even some simple but odd terms are explained. Every aspect of game design is considered and explained. The "rules" set out in this book are also easy to follow and can even help companies who normally produce less-then-stellar experiences get a good game out.

Overall, BUY BUY BUY!
And Scott, hope I get to work with you sometime!

2.0 out of 5 stars The only dream is how good this game could've been, 1 Aug. 2010

This review is from: Fragile Dreams (Wii) (Video Game)
This game is easily one of the worst games I've ever played for Wii.

The combat and gameplay of the game is exploration and beat-em-up. Unfortunately, this results in moving your character into position, then mashing the A Button until something dies. Because of this, the game feels very clunky and dull.
Another aspect of gameplay is that the game requires you to pay occasional attention to the Wii Remote's Speaker to gain clues. Unfortunately, this is also clunky and dull, and becomes incredibly grating when forced to play hide n seek with a lil ghost brat.

The cutscenes as well, feel bolted on. Every time something special comes up (and I use special in the loosest sense of the word) the game pauses and fades out as it switches to "cutscene mode". This removes the feeling of immersion from the player and becomes grating when you realise one of these cutscenes will begin every few feet.

Overall I was dissatisfied with this game. It's horrible and repetitive. It's not even interesting in the way a particularly pretty but poisonous type of jellyfish would be. It's just dull. PS2 titles have done better. Avoid.
