I really tried but after getting two thirds of the way through the book I could go no further. The setting was interesting but the characters were incredible and as regards the plot well beyond belief really.

1.0 out of 5 stars How did this get published!, 22 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Red or Dead (Hardcover)
There is little I can say that has not already been said about this book, about the great man, the manager of Liverpool Football Club who play at Anfield, in Liverpool. It was a memory jogger this book about the great man, the manager of Liverpool Football Club who play at Anfield, in Liverpool. I remember some of the games and so as i read this book about the great man, the manager of Liverpool Football Club who play at Anfield, in Liverpool I could recall the time when I either watched the highlights or listened to the radio. Bill Shankley, was the great man, the manager of Liverpool Football Club who play at Anfield, in Liverpool... be deserved better than this effort!

This is the fourth live set I have from Vasco spanning probably 15 years but this time I got the two hour concert on DVD!

Enjoyed the concert on DVD and even better on CD with the higher sound quality.

Anyone who enjoys quality rock music has got to give this a try!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Jazz set, 1 May 2013

Tradition is served well on this Fred Hersch Trio live recording from New York's Village Vanguard. The pianist's covers of the American songbook, like Cole Porter's "From This Moment On" and jazz classics such as Miles Davis' "Nardis" and Thelonious Monk's "Played Twice," animate and energize every moment of this club date.

Hersch's take on Sonny Rollins' 1957 date at the club includes the classic "Softly As A Morning Sunrise," played with a light dancing touch over McPherson's brushwork, and the piece increases in complexity without forsaking the melody. The trio also plays around with Rollins' "Doxy" by taking it at a much slower pace, its irony here is admirable. The same goes for his original ballad "Tristesse," written for the late Paul Motian, who was the monarch of the Vanguard during last ten years of his life. Hersch has a way of reinvesting in legends and their work, such as with Charlie Parker's "Segment" and his mash-up of Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman" and Davis' "Nardis." Hersch also created the tune "Sartorial" for Coleman, with the free jazz progenitor's leaps and gestures, and "Dream of Monk" portioned in Monk-speak.

The thrill of a live date at The Village Vanguard is to create something that stands tall next to all the history of the place, and Hersch certainly manages to accomplish that.

Great collection and more than enough tracks to keep any GP fan happy for hours but the sound quality is a little patchy, which is what you should expect form a bootleg, but all the same takes a way from the pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid performance, 1 May 2013

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds give a mighty performance throughout "Push The Sky Away" that remains true to those already in their catalogue and should please established fans of the alternative rock group. Quite dark and somehow powerful would best describe my overall impression. There really aren't any tracks I would say standout in a negative way, the entire album maintains the same feel and flows perfectly from song to song. However, some of the album's brightest moments would have to be "We No Who U R", "Mermaids", and the title track.

Nick Cave doesn't wield an incredibly dominant vocal presence but this helps attribute to each track, as well as maintain, a quietly dark vibe and feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truely great live album, 1 April 2013

This review is from: Live From Alabama (Audio CD)
As an official live document of what this guy and his compatriots are all about, I'd rank Live From Alabama among the great concert albums; I cannot get it off the CD player for this 72 minute gig is everything a live album should be. It's a cross section of songs from Isbell's three studio releases performed with the heightened intensity and emotion that a packed club brings to already solid material.

"Alabama Pines" gets a more intense reading with Isbell's electric guitar replacing the studio version's acoustic. The crowd response is natural and lively as they sing the "whoo-whoo-whoo"s on the chorus. Isbell resurrects the EP's magnificent "Danko/Manuel" in a dramatic eight minute, horn enhanced reading that is this disc's centerpiece. The mid-tempo tunes mix predominantly melancholy melodies with moody swampy rock, potent singer/songwriter observations and a gritty country vibe.

Isbell's stories generally concern blue collar working class aspirations and frustrations, concepts he clearly understands firsthand. His emotional singing has always been vital and perfect for his lyrics but it -- along with the playing -- is kicked up a few notches here. A closing version of Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane" provides a chance to rock out on guitar as Isbell pays tribute to one of his most obvious influences. Everything connects emotionally and musically in front of an enthusiastic crowd on one of the year's best and most vibrant live albums.

One of the true greats of rock music; the problem is that he is Italian. I cannot recommend his work too highly. You could start here but it will probably be the first purchase of many. You will wonder how you missed him for so long!

Great collectio of music but it is a bootleg collection so I should have known that the sound quality would be questionable. Good value for money all the same!
