5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of London Tired of Life, 21 Nov 2013

This book is essential reading for those who love London and want to understand its evolution. It's a shame that when it was written London was going through the difficult years recovering from Thatcher's abolition of the GLC. The 2012 Olympics showed how the city has sprung back from the darker days of the 1980s.

Good hagiography for one of the greatest icons of the 1960's. Don't ever get old Mick. We want to see your Glastonbury Concert in 2023.

Sententious, and inaccurate. Pompous. Robert Hughes has died now but Mary Beard was right when he said it would be better if he had not written this book.

Martin Sixsmith did an extraordinary amount of research in order to piece together this portrait of the life of a child taken to America by his adoptive parents and his frustrated search for his true mother. He pieced together a moving picture of how this person's life was haunted by a sense of loss and guilt that he had been taken away from his blood mother because he had done something wrong.

This author knows France well but sometimes plays hard and fast with historical fact and interpretation. There are plenty of amusing anecdotes and fascination facts. A nice one to read on the Eurostar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Our next Prime Minister, 5 Dec 2012

This is a serious attempt to redress the balance after all the media distortion and character assassination that has been carried out on ~Ed Milliband since he became Labour leader. I found the research painstaking and the viewof Milliband perceptive. A timely and useful ray of light on our next Prime Minister who will be tasked with cleanign up the Augean mess left by the current band of Bullingdon vandals.

Such a disappointment after his wonderful early autobiography. I found the next instalment of this great actor's life story a mixture of rambling and self-indulgent recollection of trivia. A few moments of the great honesty and humour which lit up the author's first volume of autobiography were apparent but not enough to counterbalance the dross that dominates this second volume.

Very disappointing. This is a great subject and we would expect that Justin Webb, whom we know so well from his brilliant work as BBC US correspondent and presenter on BBC Radio 4 Today programme, would be able to muster a less superficial view of the difference between the US and UK.
