5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced, page-turner, 25 Mar 2014
It says a lot when you read a new book by a new-to-you author, and immediately start searching for what else she has written.

Next Of Sin is a fast paced, well written page turner. Beautifully structured in as much as you start off witnessing a murder from the point of view of the murderer, without knowing which character's head you are inside. This is slowly revealed along with the trail of destruction this character has left behind him. And is done in such a way that the book is full of the type of surprises that make perfect sense as soon as they are revealed, even though you didn't see them coming.

The author cleverly weaves the different aspects of the story together, throwing in lots of twists and turns and plenty of nail biting conflict. The main female characters are feisty and likable, though as someone recently said to me about 'Game of Thrones', don't get too attached to any of the characters. You really don't know who will still be alive on the last page.

A great read and one I'd recommend to anyone who likes crime fiction, thrillers or just well-written, edge-of-your-seat drama.

The Bluffer's Guide to Skiing (Bluffer's Guides)
The Bluffer's Guide to Skiing (Bluffer's Guides)
by David Allsop
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, light-hearted look at the world of skiing, 28 Nov 2013
If the idea of a 'bluffers' guide' is to give newbies information about the topic in a fun, light-hearted way, this little guide does a great job. Like many of these types of books, it's also interesting (& funny) for the veteran skiier who will recognise the characters he's met along the way (and maybe himself?) and perhaps appreciate some of the references that you just have to experience to understand. Short, entertaining read and a cute present for a newbie heading to the slopes for the first time this winter.

Disclosure: I recieved a free copy of this book from LibraryThing as part of their early reviewer programme.

Author's Quick Guide to Finding Your Target Market
Author's Quick Guide to Finding Your Target Market
Price: £1.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Find (& reach) your target market as an author, 23 Sep 2013
Short, no-fluff ebook that shows you how to build a picture of your perfect target reader, then find that reader and reach him or her with your marketing.

The author comes up with a slightly whacky and very original way to picture your perfect reader that even lets you incorporate some fun time with your kids (see the chapter, Build-a-Bear marketing). Whether you go through the process she describes (I plan to) , or just use it as a way to really think through the personalities and habits of your target reader, you'll come out of it with a clearer picture of who your target audience really is.

The book goes on to then give you some specific marketing techniques you can use to communicate with potential readers, including a useful breakdown of the types of people currently using the `Big 5' social media sites.

This book made me get really clear on exactly who my target market/typical reader is, and that led to a rethink and tweak of some of my platforms and techniques. Useful, to-the-point advice in a friendly easy-to-read format.

21 Ways to Write & Publish Your Non-Fiction Book
Price: £1.94

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me get my non fiction book written and published, 18 Sep 2013
Short, concise, fluff-free and packed full of information I could use immediately to start the process of writing and publishing my own non-fiction books. I liked the book so much I have continued to follow this author on social media and she continues to provide useful book marketing tips, support and inspiration. There are several books that I credit with having been a huge help in the process of getting my own books up and selling, and this is definitely one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for travel bloggers, 11 Sep 2013
This is a great book for new, aspiring and even experienced travel bloggers, full of both practical advice and inspiration. The book is in two parts, covering both setting up and monetizing your own blog, and blogging for pay for travel websites and other travel related companies.

It's written in a very natural, friendly, easy-to-read style, and includes links to some useful resources. If you're a blogger or freelance writer who wants to make money from your travels, this book is definitely one to add to your virtual library.

Ripple A Tale of Hope and Redemption
Ripple A Tale of Hope and Redemption
Price: £1.92

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally gripping page-turner, 20 Aug 2013
A great book that takes dark and difficult subject matter, deals with it realistically and still manages to be uplifting.

This book deals with sexual abuse and incest in a very authentic way so if you're one of the many women who have been affected by this or involved in helping others who have, it may bring back some raw and challenging emotions. However the message of hope and redemption and the way the story addresses just how common and universal these issues are would also make it a book I would recommend to survivors at all stages of recovery.

I loved the clever, `change of character' scenes from the point of view of the bad guy (whose identity remains undisclosed to the end), and the way they created threat and suspense.

Excellent book for any parent who is home educating or considering it. Although this is meant to be a book for parents of gifted children, the principles apply to all children and will help you bring out your children's natural gifts as well as help them deal with weaknesses. Loved the case studies from different families about how they arrange their homeschooling and manage their lives. Lots of good practical resources/links to useful websites as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the couch change, 3 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm a freelance writer working on my first full-length book and, like Chazz Chute, I have a problem with authority, so the Indie Author route appeals to me. I like the fact that this book is balanced, full of useful info/suggestions and delivered with quirky humor. And as the author points out, the ebook version is available for 'couch change'. Well worth the (small) investment.

Great little ebook that delivers exactly what it says it will. 21 strategies, all free, that will help self-pubbed authors get more exposure and increase sales (assuming they're selling a quality product). Clear, simple, step-by-step instructions - all in one place, so a great time saver. Good choice for new self-publishers or those who are disappointed by their current sales figures.
