Large Swiss Cow Bell with Leather Handle Home Ornament
Large Swiss Cow Bell with Leather Handle Home Ornament

4.0 out of 5 stars We're happy with it, 21 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very unusual item for the house, quite roughly finished, but attractive in its way if what you are looking for is a quite large Indian cow bell, garnished with gold colour. The surprise was how loud the bell is. We're happy with it, it's effective to call someone two flights up for supper, cuts out the shouting!

This shower caddy is attractive, with a smooth finish. Unfortunately we had miscalculated the size of the shower room, otherwise we would have been glad to install this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful book, 15 Mar. 2014

Beautifully produced, with colour photographs on nearly every page. This is about gardening in extreme conditions! It has a very interesting (and well-written) story to tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little known but awesome composer, 28 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Richard Jones is not well known, and this is one of life's mysteries: in the lottery of fame he missed out, but what music is still available is stunning. Mitzi Meyerson's recording of Jones' Sets of Lessons for the Harpsichord, London, 1732, was a revelation, and this recording of the violin sonatas is as remarkable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don Paterson, 14 July 2013
For a sharp, appreciative and humorous commentary of Vendler's The Art of Shakespeare's Sonnets, coming from a different direction to those of the reviews below, try Don Paterson's Reading Shakespeare's Sonnets,pp xix-xxi.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh new poetic voice, 29 July 2012
This review is from: Natural Histories (Paperback)
I'm reading Emily Hasler for the first time with this pamphlet, natural voices. Her poems stand out from much contemporary writing, in that they don't give the impression of trying to impose their cleverness upon the reader, but instead, quietly and thoughtfully combine observation with insight. There is a balance here of thought, feeling and natural observation which is often moving, often restful.

The Glass Harmonica
The Glass Harmonica
by Claire Crowther
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Cutting edge poetry, 31 Aug. 2011
This review is from: The Glass Harmonica (Paperback)
A brilliant pamphlet from one of the best contemporary poets: a good introduction to Claire Crowther's work. After reading these poems the reader will want to explore her collections: The Clockwork Gift, and Stretch of Closures, and her more recent pamphlets Mollicle, and Incense.

Rameau: Harpsichord Pieces
Rameau: Harpsichord Pieces
Price: £15.76

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recording, 22 July 2011
I have been listening to this recording in parallel to Gilbert Rowland's Rameau Harpsichord music: Vol. 1, essentially the same selection. I respect and love them both, and coming down as it does to personal taste, I prefer Yates' recording. As virtuoso an interpretation as Rowland's, upon repeated listening it yields for me many subtle moments. In Le Rappel des Oiseaux she produces in the first half a vivid naturalistic 'woodland setting'; in the second half the listener is 'returned to the drawingroom' as it were listening to the conversation through open doors: realism is never allowed to sweep away civilisation. If you are a harpsichord student you can learn a great deal from Sophie Yates' playing; in any case this is a beautifully performed and moving record.
