Nashville bowled me over. It was wonderful, a breath of fresh air, and I stayed true to Josh Rouse as I waited for another bunch of songs as good. Alas it was a long wait but now there is good news.

With the release of 'The Happiness Walz' Josh is back on form and has produced a bunch of happy, bouncy, well written songs to see in the Summer.

Thanks Josh I always knew you could do it, now go do it again but please do it sooner rather than later.

No Elvis Cole, no Joe problem! This is another very good book from Mr Crais and draws you in from page one. I finished it in a couple of days sitting in the sun by the pool (yes it is a another pacy tale, well written and simply told).

The story line and the relationship between Scot and Maggie have 'movie' written all over them and I can't wait to see it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply - a very good read, 21 May 2013

Don't agree that the love aspect is so 'unlikely' as it would be normal in today's society and it does ad to what, quite simply, is a very good read. Yes, the story may start off a little slowly but the pace soon picks up and you find that you have a 'page turner' in your hands. Characters are strong, the story is engaging, the historic details are interesting and bring life and colour to the tale and the settings bring reality and atmosphere.

Will now look at other books by this author

4.0 out of 5 stars More than a hint of the early McCartney, 19 Mar. 2013

With thousands of albums vying to be heard I feel that just leaving a comment should mean that this one is worth checking out at least.
I was not surprised to find that Gabe Dixon had played for Paul McCartney as at times he sounds quite like him. Well, sometimes he structures songs and sings a bit like an earlier version. The Wings version to be precise and for me that was the best version. So, if you miss the toe tapping sounds of the more poppy Macca then give Gabe a try.
If you like Josh Rouse or Coldplay (he sometimes sounds a bit like them too) give Gabe a try . If you want a nice little album your mates won't have and your girlfriend won't dislike, then give Gabe a try.
If this review (or another) of One Spark (good or bad) has caught your interest then...............give Gabe a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Melodic Rock, 19 Mar. 2013
This review is from: DIAMOND BLUE (Audio CD)
Another album 'found' on Amazon. The web tells me Mr Brock is a singer who started with Kansas in 1983 and has been in demand ever since, singing with a variety of UK and American bands I've never heard of!
This is a strong album with a wide sound-scape and some solid guitar solos that demand you play it loud! The vocal ability illustrates why Terry Brock is in such demand but does not explain why it has taken me so long to hear him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good set from a man who deserves more success, 19 Mar. 2013

This album is not as light and upbeat as the previous 'Oh! Mighty Engine' (which I prefer), perhaps due to being recorded here and obtaining a more traditional English feel in the process. However, it still has the charm and gentleness I have, only recently, come to associate with this artist. It is another warm, rounded and mellow album to relax you.
Neil Halstead is a find and as his star does not shine as bright as it should, find him you must. Palindrome Hunches is another collection of heartfelt, well crafted songs from this singer songwriter who is up there with England's all time best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't know how I found this but I'm so glad I did, 19 Mar. 2013

This is a gentle, mellow enjoyable album that casts its spell both when the sun is shining as well as late at night. It is a relaxed, gentle collection of songs to make your world a better place. Recorded in the States it has a lighter touch than the more recent 'Palindrome Hunches' (which has a more English feel). The American studio influence has added to the laid back charm and the outcome is better for it.
On telling people about Neil Halstead they all say they haven't heard of him. On playing them this album they are glad I did.
Here is another artist that doesn't get the profile he deserves. Make sure you listen to him now and spread the 'word'

Crowbone (The Oathsworn Series, Book 5) (Oathsworn 5)
Crowbone (The Oathsworn Series, Book 5) (Oathsworn 5)
by Robert Low
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read but Crowbone is no Orm, 19 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Oathsworn saga is, on many levels, excellent and while this book stands up well it is not quite as good as the others. I feel this is due to three main reasons:

- It is a times confusing. There are too many characters and as they all have Nordic names it is not easy to quickly identify them especially with three different main groups on the same quest. Whilst the author has tried to avoid this with section headings identifying the time and the crew in the action taking place he does not always succeed

- Crowbone whilst growing in stature does not command the presence of Orm and none of the new characters can match Finn for sheer bravado and excitement.

- The fact that the story is told in the third person rather than through the eyes of Orm as in the previous books. OK, I know Orm is not a main character in this story and so this would not have been possible but it does not have the same flow as before ....or perhaps it just took me longer to get into it

Saying that there are many positives:

- The depth of knowledge of the period and the research taken to acquire it is, as ever, first class

- It is strong on atmosphere with a true taste of the time and places in which it is set. You feel the cold and damp as the Oathsworn do - does the sun ever shine in the North?

- It is another really good fast paced story from an enthusiastic, intelligent writer

- The blood and gore of the previous books is never lacking

- The weaselly priest Martin is still causing problems

So, go read it and if you haven't already done so read the other books in the series - you will be glad you did.

John Mellencamp: It's About You [DVD]
John Mellencamp: It's About You [DVD]
Dvd ~ Kurt Markus

3.0 out of 5 stars Awful picture quality (due to a naff idea), 13 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having been a fan since he was called John Cougar, buying all his albums and missing out on tickets for the last UK tour this DVD was, for me, a must have. Alas, after viewing it I was really disappointed.

The content is excellent but why, oh why, was it shot in Super 8?! This is the sort of thing that we would have done in the sixties i.e have been too arty, too clever -too stoned. Using Super 8 is as naff in the modern digital world as the old zooming in and out effect was 'back in the day' (a great idea when you were smashed but rubbish when you were straight).

I agree with a previous reviewer that John Mellencamp is greatly underrated and so it is a shame that this DVD does nothing to enhance his reputation

It just leaves me waiting for some decent concert footage or another UK tour - I'm not holding my breath for either

5.0 out of 5 stars Dickens on a bad trip!, 15 Jan. 2013
This review is from: A Fine Balance (Paperback)
A huge story with a depth, solidity and feeling for life that I have not come across in any other modern Indian writer. Real and sharp this is not a happy tale and many times leaves a nasty taste in the mouth inspiring anger and tears on many an occasion.

Yes, this book hits your senses hard and is a wonderful read for that.

I have visited India many times and always put this book forward as a must for anyone with an interest in this marvelous country. It is also recommended to anyone with an interest in literature as the standard of writing and the level of storytelling is second to none
