5.0 out of 5 stars History, intrigue and speed., 11 April 2014

A rattling good yarn which takes you from post war Palestine to 1960s racing. It may seem an odd combination, but to say why here, would spoil the plot which, right to the last couple of pages has you turning the page. The ending is not obvious.
I read it in 2 sittings and couldn't put it down.

Lovely story, enchanting setting and lots of food for thought. Written in the 1930s but the message still applies today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wrong boy, right book., 20 Jan 2011

An enjoyable read, if you are not alarmed by the language. The story pulls you along from one disaster to another, with humour and a Russelesque delight in use of English which captures and beautifully illustrates the characters. The only thing which lets this excellent book down is the ending which seems a rather rushed, and frankly unbelievable conclusion. Having said that, don't let this put you off reading this book which otherwise is 98% perfect.

An excellent book, fascinating, readable and informative. A must for any social historian, or family historian but also relevant for anyone with an interest in sociology.
