Great book that gives a real insight into the period and the lives of people in Glasgow at the time. Easy to read, well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A long read but worth it, 20 Oct. 2011
I found it hard to get to the end of this but glad I persevered. It really brings the period to life. It's one of those books that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Although it is a long, long book (I found I had to read another book at the same time to get something different!) I loved this book. Well written and enlightening.

Although this was readable, I found it irritating to read. The characters were nothing short of annoying with poor, unrealistic dialogue and I found I didn't care what happened to them.

A very enjoyable read giving an interesting insight into the period. Characters are believable and I loved the way the southern accent came across easily in the writing.
