1.0 out of 5 stars Low rent unionist propaganda, 7 April 2013
This review is from: Fascist Scotland (Paperback)
This pamphlet is no better than a bunch of copy pasted wikipedia entries culminating in a preposterous and insulting conclusion. This man is a french teacher and has no credentials to write about Scottish history. Ignore.

The Devil's Tune
by Iain Duncan Smith

1.0 out of 5 stars what van I say ?, 3 April 2013
This review is from: The Devil's Tune (Hardcover)
"It was a shock - absolutely awful. I felt pathetic. I remember telling my wife. We looked at each other and she said: 'God, what are we going to do for money?'"

Duncan Smith's wife, Betsy, is the daughter of the 5th Baron Cottesloe who served as lord-lieutenant of Buckinghamshire in the 1980s and 1990s. Duncan Smith and his wife, who sent their children to Eton, moved into Lord Cottesloe's 17th-century Old House in the village of Swanbourne in Buckinghamshire in 2002. His in-laws moved into smaller accommodation to make way for the Duncan Smiths and their four children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Epic but a bit unsurprising., 28 Jan 2013
This review is from: Opposites [2CD+DVD] (Audio CD)
Biffy seem to be treading water slightly with this offering. It's all technically great and there's no bad songs it's just a bit safe and predictable if you've followed Biffy for 12 years like I have. I seriously think it's time they move away from gggarth as producer. Most songs have the same 'feel' and motifs are over repeated.

Bens drumming is as solid and precise as ever but lacks his usual character somehow. Can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it's just over compressed like all modern music. It's all a bit too dense and dare I say formulaic production wise although there IS a crazy amount of things/noises going on in the background.

Of course there are the radio friendly unit shifters as we've come to expect from the more commercially minded Biffy but there was always enough on the previous albums to satisfy Biffy's 'older' fans. One song called "Pocket" sounds like Tom Petty, perhaps America MOR has influenced them more than they realise and it's a bit "cringe".

Anyway nothing bad on here, nothing offensive just more of the same from a band I consider as one of the most imaginitive and adventurous bands out there. Highlights are "Modern Magic Formula" and most of second 'side' such as "Victory over the Sun", "Spanish Radio" "Skylight" just enough to get it to 4 stars although it is close.

Perhaps it just suffers from being a double album. I'm not a great fan as sometimes it can just be too much.

Definitely to be listened to loud I think as some of the finer points could be missed.

DISCLAIMER Compared to other bands this is still a 5 star album but compared to Biffy's other albums it doesn't move them further.

4.0 out of 5 stars No problems for me, 2 April 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

No Total war release has been perfect..there are always things that dumbfound and annoy but on the whole the experience is a lot of fun. Empire is no different. If anything it is far more involved than previous releases and requires different patience and strategy levels. AI will never be perfect. The new technology and finance and recruitment trees are refreshingly new. It takes a while to get used to them but like ever you find the shortcuts.

It's a shame people have had problems with Steam and crashes but I was playing within 1 hour of receiving game today. 8 hours later and I have yet to experience any lags or glitches. Great game.

This was a great film..

The first 20 mins were a bit annoying ( for some of the reasons mentioned in review below) but it developed into a great piece on depression [ not obsession] and how it can affect relationships. Any person with a soul could see that.

There were interesting techniques used to tell the story but they didn't detract from my enjoyment.

I liked it...that's all I can say.

3.0 out of 5 stars BANALITY IS THE NEW BLACK, 16 April 2006
Pretty Vacuous film like the Rock Star's life it portrays.

Based on The Last days of Kurt Cobain there seems to be little point to this film at all. Or is that the point itself. See for yourselves. If it was meant to provoke some sympathy for Cobain's suicide then this film works cos I felt like joining him till I realised I had a life.
