5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful depiction of the end days in the bunker, 22 Mar 2008
A very powerful movie showing the end days of Nazi Germany. It is well acted and shows the different types of people around Hitler apart from Hitler himself. One gets a real sense of what it must have been like in the bunker in the dying days of the war, as it became clearer and clearer for the characters portrayed that the Nazis had lost the war. Some of characters were clearly pathological deviants without question. Others were true believers and followers, who allowed evil to happen as they so much wanted to believe the illusion they were fed, while ignoring the reality and the brutality that was all too obvious for those with eyes to see.

Lessons to be learnt in today's world, where a new rise of fascism is evident. Time to watch out and pay attention to what is really happened and done and not just to what the leaders say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning movie!, 9 Mar 2008
This movie is such a pleasure for the eyes to watch. The cinematography, the pace, the colors, the beautiful language just captivated me. The story has some good twists in it, but it was particularly the grace that got me more than anything. But if you are wanting a fast paced action thriller then this is not for you. Make sure to watch it in the Mandarin version with English subtitles unless you understand Mandarin, as the movie just isn't the same when it is dubbed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful portrayal of Edith Piaf, 9 Mar 2008
This is quite a film and not a particularly joyous one, but neither was the life of Edith Piaf. The life journey of Edith Piaf was mostly new to me and if the film was true to her life then it was a pretty tough start. She came across as having quite a few narcissistic traits, which would not be surprising giving her parents lack of care and concern for her needs.

The performance of Marion Cotillard was brilliant and the Oscar for best actress was well deserved. She truly lived into the role and portrayed well the life of a tormented soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Higly worthy of consideration, 28 Jan 2008
I sometimes wonder why it is so hard to get books, such as this one and why it is not being reprinted again. This is certainly not a crackpot theory, but a theory that has since found much validation.

Velikovsky back in 1950, when this book was published, proposes that the earth is subject to cometary impact from within the solar system and that these impacts has happened within recorded history. He does an excellent job at showing how impacts that devastated the earth and caused much upheaval has been recorded in many cultures across the planet, from Egypt, South America, Iceland, Mexico, America and many more. It is well documented and one has to admire the work gone into producing this book and getting all the source material to back up the theory, considering that it was written in a time when there was neither internet nor computers. There is much in this book that should be considered seriously, but which has received very little attention from the academic community.

However some have dared to go there and some of what Velikovsky wrote has since been verified. An Astrophysicist Victor Clube wrote in the 1990'ies that the earth goes through cyclical cometary showers and that some major event happens 1 in 4 lifetimes. Likewise other people have built on Velikovsky's work and come out with an interesting cosmological account of the universe, namely the Electric Universe. Still it is on the outskirts of mainstream cosmology and one wonders why as it can potentially add much new understanding.

Another recommended book that deals with the cyclical nature of things and much more is called "The Secret history of the World" by L.Knight-Jadczyk

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for all parents!, 28 Jan 2008
The title of this book is not one that jumps out at you and says read me, as it is a book that casts light on a dark area of society, one that most prefer to ignore or shut out. Unfortunately, that plays straight in to the hands of the predators, whom we wish never to have to deal with. But the phenomenon is real enough and Gavin de Becker gives some startling statistics in the foreword to the book: The Justice department estimates that there is one child molester per square mile in the US.

And the problem is that they don't look any different from the rest of the population.

As Anna Salter says: "In short, there may be little harm in holding generalized expectations that the world will treat us well - so long as we prepare for a world that may not."

She does a great job at describing what these predators in our midst look for and how they operate, which is essential knowledge in order to take steps to minimise risks of ever encountering one.

I would recommend this book to any parent as the practical advice given therein can be what stops your child from being a victim of one of these predators. Knowledge does protect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well laid out introduction to the 4'th Way, 15 Jan 2008
This is a great little book that offers a surprising amount of insight into the spiriual path. The book is written before Ouspensky published his book "In Search of the Miraculous", which goes into much more detail, but this book has so many little gems that it is worth every penny spent. To me Ouspensky is more accessible than reading Gurdjieff directly and gives a very good overview of the 4'th way teaching.

Gnosis: The Mesoteric Cycle v. 2 (Book 2)

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, 15 Jan 2008
This book is part of 3 books with the title Gnosis, that deals with the fourth way teachings. For those unfamiliar with Gurdjieff and the fourth way I would recommend reading Ouspensky first and in particular "In search of the Miraculous".

Mouravieff brings many of the same teachings up as in the above mentioned book by Ouspensky, but he adds his own insights to certain topics and adds new concepts such as the idea of polar beings. There is a Christian flavour throughout the book with many quotes from the New Testamente. This would have to be taken with a grain of salt, especially after having read Burton Mack's excellent book "The Lost Gospel: The Book of Q and Christian Origins", where he raises serious and valid questions to the historicalness of the New Testament.

For any student of the 4'th way I would recommend reading this series of books, but be prepared that it takes more stamina to read as it to me has a more theoretical flavour than Ouspensky's book mentioned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every working person, 30 Dec 2007
This books gives a wealth of insight into how to deal with psychopaths in the work place. It clearly outlines how the psychopaths with the use of lying, manipulation and charm often easily manages to get pass the screening interviews for high powered jobs in the workplace. It describes the whole process by which the company and the whole workplace becomes toxic due to the psychopath's influence and it offers the steps and solutions to counteract in order to protect oneself and also for businesses to protect themselves.

Yes a powerful book, that adds to the other book by Robert Hare called "Without Conscience".
