5.0 out of 5 stars First rate purchase, love it, 18 Aug 2011
I was reading sections of this book for a while on Google books in preparation for an exam and now wish that i had bought it sooner. Its so well written, easy to read and jam packed with interesting and relevant information. It goes from the early baroque period to the present day, and as a classical singer I am learning with every page turn. And this is after reading the 3 ABRSM books "A performers guide to music" (which are also informative and interesting reads but not in the same league as this book if you are a singer).I highly recommend this book to classical singing students.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for singers, 10 Aug 2011
Considering that Callas was and is one of the few international singers to actually attempt to educate future generations on "How you learn to sing and the fundamental elements of professionalism, technique and artistry", I consider this book a must have for advanced students. its to the point and informative. A book I will return to again and again for pointers on arias and artistic inspiration.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not an easy read, 10 Aug 2011
I found this book to be very theoretical and considering that its aimed at students, inappropriate to the target audience. It lacked simplicity, directness and a proper index.
