Possibly Britain's Current Best Band?, 28 Aug 2011
Whilst not being a giant stylistic leap on from the excellent Primary Colours, The Horrors really get into their stride with Skying. Choosing to produce this album themselves rather than using Geoff Barrow as on the previous album means that they have created a unique atmospheric sound, with elements of 80's synth pop, gothic stylings & whisper it, a touch of prog! Stand out tracks for me are the epic Endless Blue, with it's synth wash intro, Monica Gems, which sounds a bit like Suede put through a distortion machine, & the wonderful single Still Life. To be honest, there is not a bad track on the album, with each song revealing itself with repeated listens. An modern classic, which you'll go back to again & again.
