4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent new direction for Faulks, 2 Jun. 2007
This review is from: Engleby (Hardcover)
I agree with the reviewer who says this is Faulk's best for some time. It is also good to see a writer try and largely succeed in taking a new turn - I dont think we could have had any more of the 40s from Faulks and this was far from the romantic legend of previous novels. The setting of a public school (thinly disguised but obviously Wellington College) in the late 60s was brilliant and helped us build a strong understanding of a truly chilling psyche.

4.0 out of 5 stars engrossing and clever but do we care about the characters?, 7 April 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: What You Will (Hardcover)
Another engrossing and clever novel from Katherine Bucknell, and yet rather like her previous two, its hard to like any of the main characters much ( maybe thats the point), not even our heroine Hilary and its hard to care too much about their McGuffin ie the art collection. But beautifully written and a compelling narrative. Shades of Iris Murdoch and I think I will continue to look forward to each new 'Bucknell'.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 1 Mar. 2007
Clunky writing style and an incoherent ramble through the subject. He treats the reader as if he is from outer space, for example explaining who the Beatles were. It is a promising subject but this is really a very lightweight cut and paste job.
