1.0 out of 5 stars Problems from the start., 5 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Couldn't get any response for the unit at first. The battery compartment eventually needed aluminum foil to secure a good connection. Even then the unit kept losing the settings and needed resetting. The thermometer was originally showing 4deg C too high but eventually after 1.5 hours it came down to the correct temperature - not sure how it will go on from here

This was described as medium but the sleeves are 3in too short as is the body. A much better buy would be Pringle from Matalan not much more expensive but better quality & the better sizing

From Mesopotamia to Iraq: A Concise History
From Mesopotamia to Iraq: A Concise History
by Hans J Nissen
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, 28 Oct. 2011
This is a very disappointing book. It is described as a concise history (by virtue of the numbers of the 160 pages), but this is its downfall. It is just too concise and lacks cohesion. It is full of names of places, regions, people, tribes etc. but with little in the way of introduction or background to provide a comprehensive cohesive picture - this is really disappointing as so much could have been achieved with more information (and more pages). Although there are some useful and interesting parts, the lack of depth and the breadth of coverage leads to an increasing sense of disappointment. The last twenty or so pages are much more coherent but covering almost 800 years in that space gives very superficial coverage. Overall the book is disappointing and not something I would recommend; this is even more so having recently read a history of Iran which was almost four times as long but was a much more satisfying read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and unrewarding, 15 July 2010
If you are looking for an interesting introduction to how Africa has developed over the centuries and the exciting prospects emerging for the future then look elsewhere. Africa is a vast continent with many countries and so writing a history is difficult. The authors go to great pains to say this over and over again.
To my mind this is written by professional historians for other historian and not for the general public or someone wanting to know more in a short space of time - which begs the question why write a very short introduction.
There are some interesting points and aspects but these come at great cost in time for the reader.
If you have the time to devote to reading this then my advice would be to use it in a more rewarding way. There are some excellent TV programmes and DVDs showing African development in a much more exciting and informative manner

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fair introduction, 1 Jan. 2010
If like me you are looking for a high level introduction to Hinduism then this is fair - but only just that. I don't feel that the author has a clear target audience in mind and so misses the mark for many of us looking for a general introduction to and understanding of Hinduism. Some parts of good, others are too philosophical for and introduction - best read in conjunction with some of the Ramayana stories, or even YouTube offerings

1.0 out of 5 stars A really disappointing introduction to India & it's philosophy, 1 Jan. 2010
I had hoped with this book to have a high level brief introduction to Indian Philosophy prior to a visit. I found the book very unsatisfactory from this point of view - in fact I gave up half way through having lost the plot - not the norm. To my mind the author did not define her target audience & associated objective of the book and hence I suspect many will find it a disappointment. My advice is if like me you want a high level introduction to understand the way of life and beliefs then this is not for you.
