Childbirth in the Age of Plastics
Childbirth in the Age of Plastics
by Michel Odent
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Thinking 'outside the box'., 12 Feb 2012
Michel Odent has once again got us to think 'outside the box'. By studying the industrialisation of childbirth in relation to the plastic revolution, Odent brings us question modern western obstetric practices and their effect on not only the individual health and wellbeing of each mother and child but the wider implications for society as a whole, now and in the future. Eloquently written in an accessible style with some dry humour and wide-ranging references, 'Childbirth in the Age of Plastics' may appeal to lay persons and health professionals alike. However, for those already acquainted with Odent's work, this book offers little new and the seasoned reader will find himself in all too familiar territory.

I was completely suckered when I bought this and I hope it happens to nobody else. The book is just a small collection of Wikipedia articles, some not even relevant (for example what has 'Village' got to do with the Eschede disaster?). There is no original content. A few moments' exploration on the internet would have warned me off this computer-generated rubbish. The picture on the front is of course a stock picture of any train and nothing to do with the putative subject. Check very carefully before buying anything from this 'publisher' - Alphascript. The authentic looking price, of course, is part of the scam. The production cost is probably in the order of 50p. I'm amazed Amazon would risk their reputation by allowing this on their site.
