Not Elton's best., 10 Jun 2014
I've been reading Ben Elton's books for many years now, and genuinely enjoyed them all. Personally, I've yet to read any of his work that has gripped me like POPCORN did all those years ago, and I'm afraid this falls short too.
It focuses primarily on the the rise of the Nazi Party in pre war Berlin, and how it increasingly affects the Jewish community. It does flash forward to 1950s London wish can be a bit of a distraction, and there is quite a bit about the father of the family, which in hindsight, seems like a lot of page fillers rather than page turners.
I kept waiting for something big to happen, and it just never came.
Interesting in parts, but never gripping.
