5.0 out of 5 stars just a note, 9 Aug. 2008
btw this is the best translation out there, not literal translation, but conveys the exact meaning in rhyme, which makes it very much comparable to the original german rhyme.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for anyone interested., 9 Aug. 2008
This review is from: I Saw Ramallah (Paperback)
this book offers a unique chance to learn of the personal experience side of the palestinian exodus, it is a highly personal account of many events, and holds vivid memories for the reader, and although the books is translated from arabic, it has lost non of its readability.

the book is not as political as some would want, it does offer some political thought now and then, but these mainly reflect the palestinian view.

overall it is an amazing read, a short but concentrated
acount that is also - interestingly - a gripping page-turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for anyone new to chomsky, 9 Aug. 2008
this book offers the opportunity for new chomsky readers to know what he thinks about the current situation in the M.E.

although i read many of his books before, i was surprised because this book is very readable, and the conversation style that the book employs is great, offering the chance to view matters from chomsky and achcar's perspectives.

highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Recording, 9 Aug. 2008
Brendel sets the mark for other performers for seven of Beethoven's finest piano sonatas.

Although brendel sticks to the notes, he still manages to leave his mark on the music.

recommended !

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical, 9 Aug. 2008
Glenn Gould is simply the master of this set, and in my opinion, this is the greatest recording ever made, even the 1955 doesnt come close.

its not the velocity of the recording that makes it magical, but rather the passion with which the music is performed.

and no, gould's voice doesnt bother me at all, in fact, it adds to the uniqueness of the recording.

The Siege of Mecca: The Forgotten Uprising in Islam's Holiest Shrine
The Siege of Mecca: The Forgotten Uprising in Islam's Holiest Shrine
by Yaroslav Trofimov
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.68

5.0 out of 5 stars Great job, 9 Aug. 2008
the book goes to great length to describe the events of 1979/1400 when a group of fundamentalist seized the Grand mosque in mecca, and planted the seed for terrorism and caused Saudi Arabia to reverse the ongoing modernization in order to appease ultra-conservative elements within the society - the very same elements that caused the mayhem in the first place !

although the incident was heavily censored - even after nearly 30 years - Trofimov manages to interview the people that matter, and produces a detailed account of the oft-ignored event.
