Devil May Cry 2, 31 Mar 2003
Having played Devil May Cry, and finished it many times, I eagerly anticipated the sequel. At first I was impressed by it's better graphics and the many extra moves.
However, the games creators seem to have made these improvements by sacrificing some important aspects of the game. The first thing that caught my attention was the control system, to allow all the extra moves it has been altered significantly. Unfortunately this means that to look at an object is the same button as to run the wall. This means everytime you go to open a door you end up running up it three times before it opens.
Another downfall, is the storyline, although it starts strongly it fails to reach its potential and falls well short of the script of the first game. The FMV's are also not as awe-inspiring as the first game, yet this is probably because the story gives them little to work with.
However, this is a great game and for the uninitiated is definitely worth a purchase. Even if you’re a hardened Devil May Cry fan the game is superb, just don't let the hype deceive you. Devil May Cry 2 is a great Action/Adventure game, but I doubt it will ever reach the cult status of its predecessor.
