3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but not foolproof, 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this because of the low price, compact design, the fact that it has a neat slot for the USB dongle and the fact that it takes a normal battery. All good stuff.

The pointer works well, but has an unfortunate design flaw: if you press the "blank" button for slightly too long (easily done), it changes into another mode where the up/down buttons no longer change slides, but instead start and stop the slideshow. It's far to easy to accidentally select this mode and is very confusing if it happens part way through a presentation. There's no way to tell which mode it's in.

When I first tried this pointer, it was in the wrong mode and I actually thought it was faulty. The documentation is very unclear and doesn't really explain how to switch modes.

Ideally, these things need to be completely foolproof. Without the silly mode switch feature, this would have been 5*.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adaptor, 31 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of the few compact adapters that charges iPads at full speed.

I was slightly wary of the LED indicators as I didn't want anything bright or distracting. Fortunately the status LEDs are quite subtle (and they go off when charging is complete).

An excellent piece of kit!

[edit]

Actually, the LED indicators can sometimes be annoying as (depending on what is being charged) they can flash rapidly as the device nears full charge. Easily fixed with a pice of black tape...

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it's supposed to do, 13 Mar. 2014

Replaces the HDMI audio with your own stream (analogue or digital) while leaving the video untouched.
We use this to overlay a mixing desk live audio feed onto a camera video feed to send to a remote TV screen. It works perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super bright, 13 Mar. 2014

Direct replacement for (and brighter than) 40w R50 spotlights.
Only 12% of the energy use at a decent price - what's not to like?

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonkers, joyous pop, 13 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Some Nights (Audio CD)
It's easy to criticise this album: yes, there's too much auto tune. Yes, the lyrics are mostly nonsense. Yes, stylistically it's all over the place. But the exuberant production and great song writing more than make up for it.

Great fun (ha!), highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars First one failed - replacement seems fine, 21 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These bulb are a neat, compact shape and are very bright considering they use less than 3 watts. Unfortunately, mine lasted less than a week before it failed.

It was replaced free of charge and now seems fine after several months. However, I'd want some reassurance that these bulbs are capable of lasting their claimed life before I buy many more...

Zyxel 500Mbps Micro Slimline Powerline Adapter (Twin Pack)

3.0 out of 5 stars Only 100Mbps!, 24 Sept. 2013
These might be '500 Mbps' home plugs, but the ethernet port is only 100 Mbps - so even if your house wiring is capable of higher speeds, you won't achieve them.

Despite this odd limitation, the plugs are nice and compact, decent value and work well for me (so far).

Lots of obvious influences in this album: Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Prince. All in a good way - this album is packed full of strong tunes with some great production. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent vocal mic, 3 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I find singers love this mic - it somehow makes them sound more confident and is great for lead vocal use.

It's very sensitive and doesn't have super-strong off-axis rejection, so it's slightly harder to use in a live setting than a Sure SM58, for example. Also, I would have preferred it without the switch - but it's lockable and at this price I'm not complaining. A 10-year warranty is pretty awesome too.

If you want to give singers a lift give this mic a try!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, great value, but..., 15 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a super little Android phone from a hardware point of view, but it has one MAJOR flaw: once the built-in apps have been updated there is almost no free space on the phone to install more apps.

The only way I could make enough space to install just a few of my favourite apps was to uninstall the automatic updates for stuff like Google Play Books, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Voice Search. Even after this, I have not been able to install the apps that fitted fine onto my previous phone (that had a much lower spec), even after all possible apps had been moved to the SD card.

Good points:
+ Fantastic battery life for a smartphone (I'm getting 5 days +)
+ Small, robust, waterproof

Bad points:
- A lot of unnecessary pre-installed 'shovelware' like Facebook, Twitter, Quickoffice Lite and animated wallpapers that cannot be deleted. These things are all available for free in the Google Play store, so why not just let customers install (and delete) the apps that they actually want?
- Pitiful free storage space as supplied. This can only be fixed permanently by rooting the phone, but Motorola have made this exceptionally difficult with the latest firmware...

With usable storage space, this phone would be fantastic. As supplied, it is somewhat useless if you want to install more than a few apps.
Motorola: PLEASE either fix the free space issue on this phone, or at least give us a way to delete unwanted apps without invalidating the warranty!
