5.0 out of 5 stars Man of faith, 24 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an inspirational read, as you follow one man's journey of faith. I think few people today would dare to do what he did, and yet he was such a blessing to so many, and used by God so much in the lives of the children of Bristol in the 19th century as well as around the world through his preaching ministry. It has made me re-evaluate my own faith.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, 2 April 2012
This review is from: A Passion for Quilting (Paperback)
This is a lovely book, with lots of projects that I will definitely want to make. There are traditional quilts to make, but some more unusual ones, I particularly like the vintage embroidered quilt, which makes use of embroidered traycloths and the like. There are predictable bags etc, but the book is full of more unusual projects too, such as the cake tea cozy which also incorporates some free machine embroidery, I also love the patchwork picture. I really like this book, it is pretty to look at as well as being full of nice things you will want to make. It probably won't stretch the more advanced quilter, but will provide inspiration for beginners to intermediate level sewers. Templates all need enlarging which may irritate some. All in all a great book though, and lovely to browse if you're not in the mood for actually picking up your needle!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling!, 11 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Though Waters Roar (Paperback)
I've nearly finished reading this book, and have hardly been able to put it down! The story follows the lives of a Grandmother and Grandaughter, and therefore spans quite a long period of time. It makes you think about how the choices of one generation, affect the subsequent generations to follow. I've found the story moving and thought provoking. One to miss your beauty sleep for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock on Rocky!!!, 26 July 2010
We bought this book when our kids were younger, and have done all the walks in it during various trips on holiday to The Lake District. The walks are all graded in difficulty, and are accurate and easy to follow. The 'game-board' styling is great as it breaks the walk down into manageable chunks for more reluctant walkers, and there are fun facts throughout that keep the kids interested. We have discovered new places with his book, such as 'Orrest Head' and my personal favourite 'Tilberthwaite' as well as seeing old favourites represented like 'Tarn Hows'. My only gripe is that there isn't a second volume with new walks in it! My children who are now 'Tweenies', are still keen on the format, and it's been a really useful resource in getting our family out and about in the stunning countryside of this beautiful part of the world. 5 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars unputdownable, 29 Jan. 2010
This review is from: A Proper Pursuit (Paperback)
I have just finished this book, and have had several late nights staying up reading, when I should have been asleep! The book has lots of different themes running through it, all cleverly woven together to make a great story! Violet Rose is a likeable heroine, and the writer makes it easy to identify with her. It is the first Lynn Austin book I have read, and I will definitely be reading more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Christmas crafting book for all ages., 28 Oct. 2009
This is a lovely book for children in the run up to Christmas. It contains a variety of ideas for making decorations, gifts and foodie things, cards and wrapping paper. I think the book is suitable for a range of ages as you could do some of the simpler things with younger children and older children (or even just the 'young at heart') will enjoy the more complicated activities. Some of the crafts you will be familiar with, but there are interesting new ideas and it is great to have all your Christmas crafting ideas in one place. As a parent I think the book gives appealing ideas that are not garish and that you will be happy to display in your home, or for your children to give as gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book with everything you need to know, 13 Feb. 2008
This is a great introduction to the wonderful world of felting, everything is explained clearly so the beginner can understand, but there are great projects for experienced felters too. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in this tactile craft. The photography is beautiful and makes you want to start right away!
