3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poorly executed, 16 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The concept of moving cut potatos while subjecting them to dry heat, has been used by low-fat sandwich bars for years. This results in more even heating, similar to a deep fat fryer. But without the oil.

It is a very good idea, but sadly Tefal have not given this product much thought. A good example is the fact that it is more difficult to clean, than it had to be. Foodstuff gets in nooks and crannies that serve no actual purpose, and could have been avoided with better design.

But my main objection is the incredible poor insulation. Imagine an electric oven without a door. That is basically the ActiFry. It consumes more energy than an oven, a kettle and a stove top combined. Steam and smoke is blasted out into the kitchen, through the clever combination of an inbuilt fan and the flimsy plastic top not sealing around the edges.

That being said, it is still a good idea. It cooks okay chips, and can substitute a pan with constant stirring for any non-fluid dish. A perfect tool for lazy chefs, who are not worried about the electricity bill.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful game is victim of its own success, 1 April 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

I would love to give GTA IV 5 stars, but I do have a couple of problems.

The first star is lost by bad movement and controls. Most of my deaths occur because the character "hides" on the wrong side of a wall, jumps across a wall instead of walking on it, or even spontaneously combusts, because a fire is within 3 meters.

The loss of the first star is shared by the many trailing-missions. Two missions compete in stupidity. In one you have to plant a mobile phone-controlled bomb on a car, and then follow the car, without being spotted. If you plant a phone on any vehicle, go home and look it up online. No need for the 1940's spy-genre tracking. In the Ballad of Gay Tony, there is a helicopter trailing-mission. This game was made after 9/11. Any flying vehicle over a major city is registered before, during and after any journey. Radar, air-traffic control and visual contact from the skyscrapers makes that kind of chasing ridiculous.

Another star is lost, because the game is *extremely* linear. A mission can be "go to this place, and kill that guy." No need for interrogation or interaction with the person. But if you plan ahead, choose to use a sniper rifle, secure a fast getaway car and kill the guy at a distance, the mission is forfeitet. Or the guy is immortal. You have to move to the designated spot, watch the cutscene and follow the guy to the narrow alley, which is obviously a setup.

The last star is lost for the enormous amounts of homophobia. Rockstar Games may have good intentions, but the game is fiercly hateful towards gays. It makes it very clear, that gay men cannot run, talk, walk, shoot, defend themselves or concentrate on anything important. In one mission your hetero character has to defend a sorry gay man against a hater. But first you have to chase the hater on a slow, electric scooter, called a "Faggio". When the hater has been killed, the gay man wants you to take him shopping.

These stereotypes hurt more than physical violence.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst game ever produced, 12 Feb 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

This was a major surprise. My expectations were low, but this really blew my mind. Who came up with the idea of making a first-person shooter game, where you can't reload your gun or even walk backwards? Installing the game takes hours, and it takes up ' 6 Gb on the PS. I have no clue why, because it is still a slow and poorly rendered game.

The game contains more text than the encyclopedia britannica, but all text is set with a horrible typeface, making it extremely difficult to read, even on a 50" display. The main character is supposedly one of the best secret agents, but he can't run, swim, crawl or hit a target more than a meter away.

There is no multiplayer function, the AI is dumber than in Wolfenstein 3D and the storyline is insultingly stupid.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite gift, 19 Jan 2012

Since the first time I read this book, I have bought 40+ copies as a gift for friends, colleagues and random acquaintances. Bite-size filosophies, served tounge-in-cheek, and it can be read in half an hour. Think of it as having one of the best ad men, selling you to yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have one, 19 Jan 2012

The product does what it says, but I have been surprised by the many alternative uses I have come up with. It's sturdy enough to lift quite a lot, so I can almost retire my oven gloves. I don't know why this isn't found in every kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money, 19 Jan 2012

I'm not sure I have arthritis, but my finger joints have been aching through the winter, so I decided to try out these gloves. They have really helped, so I can recommend them.

For me the most helpful feature is not the keeping my hands warm, but the forced shape of the glove. They are rigid enough to let the hand relax, but not too rigid to use while working. Their are like a comfortable recliner chair for your hand.

It's true that they are somewhat difficult to get off, but it really is a minor thing. After about a week, I have found an ok technique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful alternative to canvas, 20 Oct 2011

This review is from: W&N - Gal.Acrylic Pad 7X5 (Toy)
These pads are brilliant. A regular canvas is more expensive, heavier, subject to wind, more unstable and it takes up more space.

With these pads you can have the canvas space of 20 Mona Lisa's on your back! I prefer to paint at random locations, and bought these to bring on a travel through Europe. Whenever I felt like it, I could sit down and start painting. Acrylic paint dries quite fast, so combined with these it's the closest thing a painter can get to a camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, reliant product, 20 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Does exactly what it says on the tin.

When cutting shapes from metal sheets, the type of shears can limit the possible complexity of the shape. The highest amount of complexity can be achieved with a "throatless" metal shear, but that is an expensive, large and heavy piece of equipment. I chose these shears instead, and was pleasantly surprised. The angled blades increases maneuverability, and delivers a nice result.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good siphon, odd product, 21 July 2011
For a siphon, it does not get much better.

But you still use an entire CO2 cartridges for 1 liter of water. Though they are not very expensive, it still seems somewhat of a waste. I spend some time finding a purpose for the cartridges. I have fitted a screw in each, and are now using the cartridges as coat hooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good alternative to a canvas, 21 July 2011

Instead of buying an expensive canvas, the Winsor & Newton pads for acryllic paint are marvellous! I bought them to bring on an artistic journey, but have become so fond of them, that I am expecting to use them from now on. It is so much easier than bringing a huge canvas, and they are very easy to use with brushes and palette knives.
