5.0 out of 5 stars Still 'the bible' of bicycle science, 9 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bicycling Science (Paperback)
Although other books have concentrated on various aspects of science of bicycles they tend to focus on either 'sporting aspects' or DIY (ie for people new to cycling). This book covers all aspects and goes into considerable depth. It demystifies SO many myths handed down in bicycle enthusiast folk law (which in turn is often subjective ! eg ... "this XXXX is better than that YYYY" with the only evidence that the rider thinks so ! The biggest variable in bicycle mechanics is from rider to rider - may 'enthusiasts' prefer to ignore this and focus on unscientific 'gossip' . I recommend this book, over any other book on bicycle design - only wish for an new updated edition.

Handbook of Compliant Mechanisms
Handbook of Compliant Mechanisms
by Larry L. Howell
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 75.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Best attempt yet to demystify Compliant Mechanisms, 9 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The best part of this design / engineering book (unlike SO many others)is that is it really well illustrated, with diagrams, photos and even equations of the mechanisms. The only tiny negative is I wish there were more mechanisms covered .. but that is probably more my hunger for such stuff than any fault of the book. Recommended for all designers and engineers, especially those who work in plastics, thermoplastic elastomers, natural rubbers and the whole range of flexible materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw the funny advert on TV (rotating wig) .. v funny AND it works great, 19 Dec 2010
I've bought several of these, Amazon, Lakeland and places like that.
They make excellent presents for anyone - and once used I'd never go back to 'hand cranking'.
The main advantage (sounds obvious really) is that it is fully automatic - this means you can be doing other food preparation tasks while the can opener does its job.

Word of warning - there are a lot of fakes about: I've had one off ebay, one off a market store and one (ahem !) off Amazon !! they all seemed good value (too good value !!) .. at about 1/3 the regular cost. they even looked the same, but they just do not work, as well or NOT AT ALL ! I wish I remember the quote "if it sounds too good to be true - it probably IS !"
So dont use the 'New & Used' section on Amazon for these and make sure you get a genuine one.

Do that and 5* excellent product

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well and looks good, 9 Dec 2010
The curved blade really does peel wider ! So it is faster.
It fits my hand OK and the 'rubbery' grip helps.

I am buying several as presents :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product !, 7 Sep 2009
Bought this on a whim, but now its become indispensable ! I would describe it as combining the best of those old fashioned hand cranked, geared whisks with the more usual manual wire whisks. I particularly like how I can whisk hot chocolate in a mug - which is impossible with other whisks. It can of course be used as a normal whisk, without the squeeze function. Finally like most JosephJoseph Products it looks great. 5 stars.
