5.0 out of 5 stars Good little external HDD, 26 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not had this very long yet, but initial impressions favourable. Very compact, nice piano black finish, has a paper user guide, just plugs into USB and works. The only slight confusion arose over the supplied lead - the HDD end is small and fits a similar hole in the HDD, but the PC end has not one but two USB connectors. The guide says connect one, and if your PC doesn't recognise the HDD, then connect the other USB plug as well! No matter - it worked first time on my PC with just one of the USB connectors plugged in. So far I've backed up all my files, as well as using backup software (not supplied with this HDD) to do a full mirror backup of my PC hard drive, in case of emergency. Hopefully the HDD will be reliable!

3.0 out of 5 stars Relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for!, 23 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these as a cheap replacement for a long-owned pair of Felco secateurs. The Spear & Jackson ones are OK but I wouldn't buy them again, indeed I've since shelled out for a new pair of my old Felcos. The S&J ones cut well, but don't sit as comfortably in the hand. The lock to keep them shut is only made of plastic, and seems to keep getting in the way when I'm using these secateurs too. The build quality, again, is OK but in comparison the Felcos are so much sturdier and likely to last much longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic playing of great expressiveness, 21 Feb 2011
This is the re-formed Borodin Quartet, after their very long-serving cellist (Valentin Berlibsky) died after 62 years' service in 2007. I heard them recently at London's Wigmore Hall, playing exactly the same works recorded on this CD, and it was a heart-warming experience. As musicians, these players are so good that you're not conscious of them interpreting the music; it just seems to emerge and flow naturally. The first Borodin quartet is rather overshadowed by the more famous Second, but with a performance of such quality you wonder why we don't hear the First more often. The Myaskovsky is his last quartet and to me it does have a somewhat valedictory feel to it - but there is plenty of melody too. The Stravinsky was new to me: it was immensely enjoyable, spiky and humorous, but approachable too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fine Bruckner 4th from an underrated conductor, 15 Feb 2011
Wolfgang Sawallisch is in my view under-rated as a conductor of Bruckner. Apart from this EMI disc, I also have his readings of Symphonies 1, 5, 6 & 9 with the Bavarian State Orchestra on Orfeo (they are all very good, while the 6th is excellent - my preferred recording of that work).

This 4th Symphony is gloriously played and recorded, while Sawallisch has that happy knack of not getting "in the way" while setting ideal tempi throughout. Most enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good - as long as it doesn't malfunction...., 14 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The 2011 version is the third I've used. 2009 & 2010 worked fine. 2011 didn't install cleanly and has caused endless problems since, the biggest being the inability to uninstall the defective program. The only option to clean up the mess is to wipe the hard disk and re-install Windows and all other software, a tedious and time-consuming job. This doesn't exactly fill me with joy & I very much doubt I'll be using Tune Up again afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice calendar at a good price, 13 Feb 2011

A good selection of Van Gogh's paintings, nicely produced. When top-hung from a wall hook, you get the picture on the top half and a "month to view" calendar on the bottom half. Just what I needed for my study!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two musicians from different fields making music together, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This box is an incredible bargain. Menuhin and Grappelli came from very different backgrounds and musical fields, but they enjoyed making music together and the results are often highly spontaneous and enjoyable. Buy it while you can!

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly OK, but there are better mice for this price, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought to colour-match a red and silver Samsung laptop, this rodent works perfectly well at a basic level. The left/right click buttons seem nicely weighted - though I accept everyone has different tastes on this. The scroll wheel is a "clicky" variety, and a little stiff. Being used to one of Microsoft's clickless notebook rodents, I'm not too keen on this aspect. With the MS Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 being available for not much more, and offering more functions and a nicer feel than this one, I know which I prefer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty and useful round tray, 8 Feb 2011

Not much to say really - pleased with this - takes a teapot, milk, sugar and two mugs for our pre-breakfast cuppa! The flowers are attractive. The tray is made of sturdy melamine and seems to clean easily (but don't leave tea or coffee stains on the tray for too long, as if left they can be hard to remove).

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish design, good tone, easy to set up and use too, 8 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The piano-black plastic looks very stylish - though I expect it will attract fingerprints! The whole thing looks clean and uncluttered.

The unit is surprisingly light without batteries, and you can use alkaline batteries instead of mains supply if you want to roam.

Easy to connect up to the mains supply, switch on, and then set to auto-tune on DAB - mine picked up 78 DAB stations on its first go, and we're not in a really strong reception area. Once tuned, you can go through the stations and transfer the ones you like best to the presets, quite easily.

I tried tuning FM stations next and encountered no issues on these either, the tone being a bit warmer on FM than DAB (as expected). Listening to classical music on BBC Radio 3 is a pleasure on this set - the sound is crisp and clear on DAB, rich and warm on FM.

The Grundig instruction manual is easy to understand, always a nice change! All in all, a very good looking set, capable of pulling in lots of stations with good sound. The controls - apart from rotary volume and rotary select - are on the touch-screen on top of the set. I don't find this hard to use, but I guess that's a matter of personal taste and some people will prefer a radio with more conventional buttons.

Recommended - I was surprised to find I am the first reviewer of this unit.
