4.0 out of 5 stars What's that funny spell?, 12 Aug 2013

You might have noticed it if you're having a problem with your colon. As a doctor (recently struck off) I tell people their colon can be managed with plenty of roughage and a bit of enema work employing a turkey baster and some Cif for All Surfaces. However the semi colon is a very different matter. The Penguin Guide to Punctuation shows one how to use it correctly and also suggests not using it at all* - advice I've heeded in this review. But this is a good, clear guide that will help with your semi colon and your commas and periods. But once again, with my medical hat on, I'd say, if you're in a comma, stay there until the family gathers around your bedside and chats to you. And if you're having a period, you're probably female.
*It may be used in conjunction with a closing bracket for the silly winky face that people use to suggest irony when texting earnest people who are unfamiliar with irony. ;)

Fantastic if you want to write verse for something like greetings cards. There's lots to go at here, indeed, as a greeting card designer myself, I can tell you you will have strung yourself up before you're even half way through all the rhyming possibilities in this book. It'll certainly get your juices flowing so get some Tena pads...and rope and get it wrote. Get it?!

It's a useful book and gives you plenty to consider when putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboards. I couldn't have written this review without it.

4.0 out of 5 stars You have to start somewhere, 12 Aug 2013

haven't tried to build a book yet but this book seems an obvious place to start. It's readable. Advice to me has been to read other reference material as well, then get someone else to do it for you. A graphic designer, for instance. But they can be right antsy fuss-pots with bad smells under their noses so I'll leave it with you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good! Bad! No...yes...one or the other., 12 Aug 2013

Useful and easy to use reference, good for quick referrals but you still need a thesaurus in your life. Yes you do. I live alone and often feel the need to argue with myself so this book is indispensable to me. Although sometimes it's dispensable. (You see, you do need a Thesaurus)
