4.0 out of 5 stars Not scientifically proved, but they don't make things worse, 18 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Seems like a lot of moola - £30 - but actually cheaper than one session with the acupuncturist to ease arthritic pain - Owned for 3 months now, and mum doesn't need her stick quite so much - so a minor positive if nothing else. Once fitted you don't notice they're in your shoes - good !

5.0 out of 5 stars Selective California wines, 24 Oct. 2012
In the series by the publishers of "World of Fine Wine" magazine, comes a square shaped, paperback on California. One of currently seven books in the series, each covers a great wine region - and this is no exception. Author's personal choices are thus subjective - to cover all of California would be impossible - but the aim of the book is to highlight excellence - and that is exactly what it does. Assuming you're not paying the £20 cover for any of the titles in the series, they can represent up to date value on certain wine regions in the world - and California is my favourite.

It is not a points out of a 100, or a gazeteer on where to buy - that is up to you to decide - but it does review wineries and explain individuals' motivations for making wine in the wineries covered.

A good value work

Rare Malts: Facts, Figures and Taste
Rare Malts: Facts, Figures and Taste

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Review indeed, 25 Aug. 2008
Ulf is a whisky connoisseur and renowned for his collecting - obsessively, almost. His knowledge and research are immense, but this is not a book for novices - if you're a collector of the Diageo Rare Malts series, this will open your eyes to the level of detail available, and the sheer number of bottlings.
A great effort to write a book on such a specific subject.

The World's Greatest Wine Estates
The World's Greatest Wine Estates
by Robert Parker
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Parker Praises The Best, 3 April 2006
As usual, Bob Parker eulogises over the classics and the cult masters of wine. This 700 page book covers anything from Trimbach's Clos Ste Hune to Shafer Hillsdide Select, and puts the selected wines in lists (region by region) with review and score for the best vintages. Pricey as it is, if you don't already have his Buyers Guide or "Bordeaux" it is an all round review of the World's greatest - even if he does go a bit mad recommending so many Rhones.
