Doctor Who The Doctor's Fob Watch
Doctor Who The Doctor's Fob Watch

4.0 out of 5 stars Pocket watches are cool, 10 Feb. 2013
As a watch it's not perfectly practical. The sound effect button is irritating, and there's no backlight. But it's very cool, slide it out, pop the case, consult the time, snap it shut and slip it back into the pocket. Lovely.

This review is from: Ulysses (Kindle Edition)
I hate this book, hate it, with its cast of utterly unlikeable characters, frequent viewpoint switches and jumbled language structure, it is more or less impossible to read. I've been trying to get through it for years, often while Amtrak-ing and yet it was a book that I just couldn't stick with. The kindle edition allowed me to get all the way to the end, allowing me to draw an educated conclusion, which was pretty much the conclusion I'd arrived at everytime I gave up on it, that Ulysses is such a waste of time, such a poor piece of work, that every minute I spent on it was wasted.

Every morning i get up and catch Batman the Animated Series before heading off to work.
And every morning one fact is impressed on me again and again.
Kevin Conroy IS the Batman.
And OK, pitch-perfect voice work is usually only part of what makes a great cartoon, but lets do the list.
Stunning visuals?
Check.
Smooth, realistic animation?
Check.
Gripping storylines?
Check.
Intelligent, witty scripting?
Oh yeah.
It isn't too far of a leap to make the claim that B:TAS is just about as good as cartoons get, and watching them you can almost forget the deluge of dross that Schumacher brought to the screen.
Indeed Mask of the Phantasm should be regarded as Batman three, so in keeping is it with the tone of Burton's Comic Noir vision.
And while it provides a half hour slice of action and adventure for kids (not since Transformers have they had it so good), B:TAS never loses sight of the fact that the majority of Batfans haven't watched cartoons before school for the best part of a decade at least. Like the best of Disney, it caters for all age groups.
So we wait, and we hope that B & R didn't kill the franchise, but while we wait we can console ourselves with the fact that, on the small screen at least, the Batman lives.
