5.0 out of 5 stars Another great instalment, 18 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is the fourth in the masters of rome series and it is about the lives of the so called masters of rome- caesar, pompey and the senate. This book also gives further insight into how the women of rome lived- hence the name. Although the author does still tend to elaborate on how perfect caesar is, the love and detail that went into this novel is obvious to see. This book also chronicles the birth of gaius octavius, later augustus first emperor of rome and as he is my favourite roman i cant wait to see how he develops in the next 3 books. You can start from this book and dont have to read the previous, however i think it better to read the others as it will give you a deeper understanding of republican rome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Im a fan!, 17 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have always been a fan of history although not from the medieval period. This novel has completely changed that for me. This book does not aim to create stereotypically perfect or evil characters but rather portrays people that lived around 900 years ago as humane and with emotions that we could understand ourselves if placed in their position. Even though i was sucked in immediately, i can tell how others may get frustrated by the writing style as it may take time to get used to, however i suggest that you stick with it because you will be in for a treat.
This novel chronicles the reign of king stephen and the anarchy which followed. there are many betrayals and people with the same names so it can be difficult to keep up with however this is remedied as penman clearly changes peoples names slightly so that you know who is who. e.g. matilda is stephens wife and there is another two matildas- one the earl of chesters wife is called maud and one who is stephens enemy called maude.
I found myself cheering for both sides and also despairing of both the main characters faults although i found myself drawn to stephens side he is very frustrating at times but then that is human as i have said nobody in the novel is depicted as perfect, perhaps that is the beauty of it- i dont know, however i did cry at stephens death scene which is unusual for me in a book.
I will be reading more from this author.

The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines, Book 3)
The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines, Book 3)

5.0 out of 5 stars Eagerly awaited, 17 Aug 2013

and not disappointed. This novel was a brilliant instalment to the series and i felt that there was a fleshing out of sydneys character as she begins to embrace magic, we also see a more vunerable side to the usually cocky adrian and we are introduced to yet another mystery of who was killing the witches. there are plenty of ahh moments in the novel and it is definitely comfort food if you are a fan like me, if you have just started with this series you should not start from here and instead should from bloodlines or even from the first series vampire academy. Although not as much focus was placed into the secondary characters such as jill mastrano and eddie, you can understand that after reading the previous books ending. I cant wait until november and the next instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and the best so far, 17 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed this novel- the 3rd of quinns plenty more then her other novels. i thought that the characters were more fleshed out and there was also an absence of stereotypical enemies. i felt that this novel was more familiar due to the fact that we were reintroduced to vix and sabina along with new characters titus and hadrian. the novel was also more exciting as it was not stuck in rome and we got to learn about army life in rome which was new. Quinn has definitely improved with each novel and i am looking forward to her next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a new series!, 17 Aug 2013

i am already a fan of richelle mead after reading her vampire academy series and her recent bloodlines one. There were undertones of rose hathatway in mae koskinen and others of adrian ivashkov in justin march, but the world around the characters was definitely new and more adult. i felt drawn into the mystery that is the runa and the mysterious cults popping up. Other reviewers have said that the world is confusing with the mentions of runa, however i felt that this was not so and i can tell you that runa stands for republic of united north america. I enjoyed this novel however i felt that it was not as good as her other series which is why it is a 4 star, however i recommend the novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can tell why..., 17 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nineteen Eighty-Four (Paperback)
it's a classic. This novel is a work of art by orwell and i found myself instantly drawn into his future world, although the novels themes are dark and may seem melodromatic at first the novel clearly warns us about what could happen to our society with the abolition of our rights. I found that i could sympathise with the protagonist winston even though i was sometimes disgusted by his inner thoughts, i know that he was never created to be perfect- rather to be an everyman and one who could represent the good and the bad in ourselves. I believe that this is why this novel is a classic; its very human and unapologetic core. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thought provoking read.

This game is full of puzzles and the storyline again kept me guessing throughout the play through. Although this is the end of the layton series there is a new prequel series out too which give you a deeper insight into who layton is. Would recommend to not only puzzle lovers but lovers of great games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh new setting, 18 July 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
After playing the last few instalments with the same character this setting is a breath of fresh air, although he may not seem as likeable as ezio, lets face it ezio is one of the greatest characters in a video game ever and we have played in his world for longer than conners. The american revolution is again a setting which receives little attention from video games and although the landmarks are not as interesting as in the previous games we must remember that america was in comparison quite new and the setting reflects this very well. The gameplay has also been improved a lot and i found the hunting aspect of the game to be interesting and well done. Desmonds story is also improved and finished and this game gives you more play time as desmond which was less emphasised in the other games. I would recommend this game for anybody, but suggest you play the others first because will understand the story a lot more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the previous instalments, 18 July 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Don't get me wrong i love this series and there were of course new gameplay mechanics added such as the hookblade which made it more exciting, we are also in another country this type-turkey and as we go from a predominately christian country into a muslim one the atmosphere feels exciting and new. Multiplayer is again carried off well, and the assassins recruit system has been continued, on the other hand, this is worse than the previous game and i found myself not really bothering with this part of the game, however this provides closure to ezios and altairs story.

5.0 out of 5 stars How could it have been improved?, 18 July 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
First of all this is not just a cheap creed fix and i found that it carried on ezios story perfectly there were also new gameplay mechanics with the addition of combo kill. Ubisoft has also experimented with the edition of multiplayer which works very well and there are many maps so that it does not get boring. I found myself checking the in game database to find out more about the landmarks and it is rare that a game can get me so interested in its world. The graphics are stunning and as i previously visited rome i found that it looked almost as real life. i would recommend it if you have played the other assassins creed as you may not understand the plot.
