This review is from: Comedians (Paperback)
Although this play may seem to crude and flippant from the offset, in a deeper reading there are many issues handled well including racism and sexism to name a few, this is a jem of the comedy genre and was greatly enjoyed!

5.0 out of 5 stars very interesting, 17 July 2013

This is the first novel in the masters of rome series and i found it to be fantastic. this is a period of history that i did not know much about previously. It contains two main characters- marius and sulla who were two very interesting men with no other equals in rome. It is a very descriptive but long however this is worth it as you will not find another novel which handles this period with such majesty. i will definitely be reading more from this series.

I think that this book is good for a general overview of the play and may give you some ideas over what to write about in the exam, however i believe that the book is not groundbreaking and does not offer any complicated ideas, however it is well laid out and easy to find what you are revising.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3rd masters of rome, 17 July 2013

I have read the previous books in this trilogy and i think that they are fantastic. This book is a lot more interesting read than the others and i think that this is because they touch on a famous period of history and one which i have always been interested in. There is a great amount of detail in the novel and i think that you should only read this if you have the patience and the genuine interest to know more. There is a star missing because i still find it rather jarring when the author slips into a love fest over caesar, however i think that this is proof of the authors love of the time period and it certainly makes the book more endearing. would recommend.

Mistress of Rome
Mistress of Rome

Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best, 17 July 2013

This review is from: Mistress of Rome (Paperback)
i really wanted to enjoy it a lot more than i actually did, it has an interesting premise in an emperors reign which i had not read much of before, unfortunately, i was rather put off by a few of the characters one dimensionality and this would be Lepida. She felt very shallow and i could not relate to her in the way that i felt for some of the other characters in the novel this made the story much more unbelievable. On the other hand, the author contains a lot of promise and i did enjoy the description in the novel and the way she handled dialogue- will definitely be checking out her other books.

Daughters of Rome (Rome 2)
Daughters of Rome (Rome 2)
by Kate Quinn
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the first, 17 July 2013

compared to Quinn's first novel, "mistress of Rome" this novel is a much more exciting and gripping read, this is most likely due to the fact that every character has their share of the limelight and develop quite a bit since the beginning of the novel. Hopefully, Quinn can continue to improve and i can't wait to read empress.
