SF-95DR Digital Satellite Signal Finder Meter with Compass, Buzzer LCD FTA Dish
SF-95DR Digital Satellite Signal Finder Meter with Compass, Buzzer LCD FTA Dish

3.0 out of 5 stars Problematic at best., 21 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Using 55cm dish in Southern UK to try and get 19.2 East, the meter would read full-scale almost all the time which made accurate alignment of the dish nearly impossible. Also, with the meter in line only the transponders on the lower frequencies (<11 GHz) were receivable and even with a signal strength of 100%, the quality on the receiver only showed 60%. Removing the meter from the circuit, the quality measure went to 90% and all signals were receiveable.

Overall it's OK for rough dish alignment but for fine tuning it's almost useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, 12 Oct. 2014

Unlike many books of its ilk, it maintained a level of interest all the way through rather than storing everything for the end. It also had a proper ending but left you wanting the next one. Great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oddly entertaining., 21 July 2014

A religious family live on a planet that is so small that looking at its horizon makes you dizzy. They share the planet with all manner of weird creatures including a devil-like machine which protects children from danger. Throughout the book, the family are met with increasingly weird visitors to their planet from intergalactic tax inspectors to deranged criminals. Despite all this, or perhaps because of it, it's a light-hearted but entertaining read - one that doesn't need too much brain power to absorb.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow to get going, slow to end!, 21 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Rather slow compared to Arseneault's AMP series, which is a much better read. I found the story in Sodium a little lacklustre and the fact that all of the 'disasters' that are met are somehow luckily recovered from made the action rather flat and predictable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well balanced audio at a very reasonable price, 21 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The box for the Bolse speaker says 'Small but very loud!' I'm not sure about the 'very' bit, but for the small size of the speaker it's plenty loud enough to fill a small room. More impressively, the quality of the sound is impressive for such a small speaker. There's enough bass to balance the mid and treble admirably. The stereo image is not that great as the speakers are close together but there are enough audio enhancements in most phones and computers to deal with this. The bluetooth connection also works very well with no loss of clarity through this connection method. I bought it to take on holiday to play music around the pool, a job for which it should excel and at the price there's less worry about it getting splashed than there would be from a more expensive item.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice idea but a bit short, 17 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A short story, but one that ends short of the end! I was disappointed that when I got to the end, it stopped about 2 chapters short of allowing you to find out what was going on. A mysterious object from outside the solar system had been detected but what was it? Unlike many other stories where a cliff-hanger would leave you wanting more, this one left me stood several metres away from the cliff-edge with a desire to turn back and find another cliff to approach rather than continue to the edge and see what was down there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Future War well told, 17 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: AMP Messenger (Kindle Edition)
A nicely told story in which the technology and politics of a future inter-species war is well illustrated. The characters are a little 2 dimensional but the story goes along at a good pace and though a book I could put down, I was keen to see how the story unfolded. The following books in the series (eg. AMP 2, 3, 4...) follow the same solid pace.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - Bass and NOISE, 8 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wanted a small profile amp to drive a couple of bookshelf speakers (Musical Fidelity MC1) and thought the Topping would be just right. I had also heard a lot about Class T amplifiers and how good they are. But the results have been disappointing. Whilst there is mountains of detail in the treble, the bass is very lacklustre. But the worst thing is the amount of radio interference that this thing causes! One of the inputs I wanted to use was a tuner which sits next to the amp. With the amp switched off, the tuner showed a strong signal from the local radio station with stereo lamp lit and full RDS decoded. As soon as the amp is switched on, the signal disappears below a mountain of noise. The way in which these amps work is to switch the signal at high frequency and they need filters on the output otherwise this kind of radio noise is going to happen. Clearly there is insufficient filtering. Overall very disappointing and not worth the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars What the Grep?, 3 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was kind of hoping for a short guide to some of the more esoteric elements of Linux, a quick guide on the things I wanted to know in order to become a better user, an introduction to some of the shell functions. But this is not a gentle book for the linux newbie, more a reference guide for the linux specialist. If you want to know what to pipe to your grep or how to bash a deb then this is for you. If, on the other hand, you just want to work more efficiently with linux or get a better feel for it, there must be better books out there.
