5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this and you won't be disappointed, 14 Mar. 2001
Usually , bands who put out a double album usually lose their way after the first cd or vinyl . But this starts as it finishes - brilliant . Zero , 1979 , Bullet... and many more are just some of the great songs on here . If you can pick one out of these songs and say that it is better than all the rest , I'd have to shake your hand and say well done because I think that they are all excellent .
Some people say Siamese Dream is the Pumpkins' best but I have to disagree - this is the best . Even though Siamese Dream is an astonishing album this tops them all .
As the summary says - You won't be disappointed .

2.0 out of 5 stars Burnt out ravers, 13 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Age of Love (Audio CD)
Much of this album sees them trying to be serious and they fail miserably . There's not a memorable track on this album which is a shame as their first two albums were great . Don't build your hopes up .

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy but don't push it too far, 6 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Speak & Spell (Audio CD)
This album is a must for anybody who likes Depeche Mode but sometimes it can get a little too happy in places ( Just Can't Get Enough and What's your name( if tracks could be shot I'd shoot What's your name as it gets on my nerves ))
Otherwise you won't have too many complaints .
There are some dark moments in the album . The Martin Gore penned Tora tora tora is about a nightmare in which he had where a girl took his love and died that day . It says that she " played a skeleton " while he " played an American ". Despite being the best track on the album it shows Martin had a bit of getting used to with the song writing lark !
Another great one on here is Any second now . Penned by Vince Clarke but sung by Martin it stands out for it's beauty .
It is an album you have to buy whether your a DM fan or not . It is a happy record despite a few songs but those die hard fans like myself would be hoping for something more deeper and all we get is some scraps .

5.0 out of 5 stars The start of something brilliant, 5 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Pretty Hate Machine (Audio CD)
No matter what you say this album deserves respect . From Head Like A hole you know that this album is beyond reviewing .
Still throughout the album it has a faint nod to his heroes , while Sanctified may have a touch of Bowie , most of this album is like he is thanking Gary Numan and Depeche Mode for making the music that they made .
Everybody has a personal favourite here and I have to include mine , That's what I get and Ringfinger , but there is no real favourite as they are strong in their own individual right .

3.0 out of 5 stars Too workmanlike, 5 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Title of Record (Audio CD)
I bought these on the basis that Richard Patrick was in NIN and when I bought it I thought it was cool . But now that I have heard it a lot I think that despite it being good too many of the songs lack passion and the result ends in a messy workmanlike song ( Miss Blue in paticular )
Many of the songs are contrived for radio purposes and it is only Welcome to the fold that really lets loose .
I still think the best of Richard Patrick has yet to be complete

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not great, 4 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Glittering Prize 81/92 (Audio CD)
The review David Stubbs gave is as accurate as you can get . At some stages of the album the music and the lyrics are nothing short of diabolical . The worst tracks on these are Belfast Child , Mandela Day and Let there be love . Just really bad .
But on the other hand there are some great songs like Someone somewhere in summertime and Promised you a miracle ( my favourites )
In comparison to their early stuff I'm very disappointed in this album . Promised a miracle but never delivered !

5.0 out of 5 stars The real best of, 4 Mar. 2001
This review is from: Celebration (Audio CD)
I originally bought this for my mam as she really liked Simple Minds . At first I didn't think too much of it but the futurism of the album esp. Thirty Frames a Second won me over and now I'd like to buy all the other albums of them that sounded like that . The commercial stuff they did was good but it is a pale shdow compared to these 10 songs
