5.0 out of 5 stars Good Pace, new Viewpoint, 6 Aug. 2015
I have read this book in three days, couldn't put it down. Although a large portion of the book tells how Yasmin and Ruby travel the Dalton Highway through Alaska, Lupton maintains the feeling of suspense and danger and successfully conveys just how extreme the cold is and the effects it can have on the body. I like the way Ruby is deaf and the different ways she communicates. Yasmin also reflects throughout the journey on how she and Matt, the father, have different opinions on that communication, he advocating Ruby's blogging and she struggling to encourage Ruby to use her mouth voice. And when the story is told from Ruby's viewpoint, the word pictures she tells add another dimension to the reading. The story culminates in a theme of ecological and environmental disaster without preaching. Good pace and enjoyable.

I thought the idea behind this book was really good. there are two realities that are told about the life of Rachel and the book does make you wonder how she has got to this point and what is the truth. The reveal at the end is good and I liked the concept. However I thought the writing was really amateur, full of cliches. She doesn't fall in love but 'deeply in love' just looking in to his eyes. It was clumsy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good colours that didn't transfer, 31 Aug. 2014

Contrary to expectations, the colours stayed in the hair for about 3 days. They were very easy to apply. More importantly, the colour didn't come off on clothes and bedding. A lot of fun over the summer.

3.0 out of 5 stars An easy, light read., 31 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was a light, easy read but enjoyable mainly as I was reading it whilst on holiday in north Norfolk - where the story is set. I won't bother giving you a plot summary - too many other people have done it. Suffice to say, I could predict the ending and who the mystery man would be, but the end was no less enjoyable for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, 5 April 2014

A fun journal that's popular with girls at the moment. Example of pages: 'take this in to the shower with you' or 'cover it with the letter W from magazines'. Totally random but my teenager thinks it's fun - and it's not plugged in and doesn't have a screen so I'm all for it!

The plot wasn't too credible, I could see through the main character - but I still couldn't put it down!!

I found this disappointing and haven't read anyone yet that I would look out for in future. Even some of the more established authors have failed to capture my attention.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, 4 Dec. 2013
This review is from: Sycamore Row (Hardcover)
This book is overly long and I did see the ending before it arrived. Even once it becomes obvious, Grisham draws out the conclusion with a contrived story of missed flights and delays. Some things don't ring true, which other reviewers have picked up. Jake doesn't keep alcohol in the house, yet is regularly having whisky with the judge and beers in the office. However, Grisham is always worth reading and the racial inequalities of the south and their impact on the family descendants are interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good looking shirt, 30 Sept. 2013

I bought this for my husband. He really likes it and it has washed well. The motif has not faded or 'cracked' as some do. A good shirt, good value.
