3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap replacement but be gentle., 19 Sep 2012

I bought this to replace the original 3DS charger which was eaten by my son's rabbit. This charger is cheap, yet effective and my son liked the red light that shows it is charging. However just a slight warning to be careful using this product, my son was playing the DS whilst it was plugged and and he pulled the game and one of the pins broke off the plug and got left in the socket, not good. I would advise this charger is used for charging only and not to let children play on the console whilst charging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for animal fans, 30 April 2012
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
My son is animal mad and he loves the Deadly 60 TV show, he already had some of the individual animals but wanted some of the larger sets for his 5th birthday. This set comtains the male lion micro deadly (exclusive to this set, a Steve figure, a car and trailer and some scenery of mountain, desert/sand and water.
The lion himself is fairly small, only a couple of inches or so in length (definitely micro) but is nicely detailed. The l comes in several pieces, this means that if you have other micro deadlies the parts are interchangeable and you can make silly animals. The lion is made of a rubbery material and is easy to construct. It is probably worth noting that the animals and Steve do not attach to the lego style scenery but can easily balance and stalk around the set. I think it is a shame that a lioness isn't included within this set but it is possible to buy separately.
The car and trailer are easy to build and it's a nice addition to the set, Steve fits nicely into the car and doesn't seem to fall out even when driven at speed. My son keeps Steve's video camera in the chest. The hammock/tent (my son uses it as both) is a nice touch and is realistic to the TV programme where Steve and his team often have to camp out in the wild.
The scenery is very similar to lego (in fact lego pices attach perfectly to this so could mix and match with other lego sets). I thought it was just as straight forward to build as lego and there are lots of big chunky pieces included as well as the traditionally smaller pieces, I thought that the pices attached together just as easily as lego and found the quality to be very similar. Like all lego style toys there are some very small pieces so it probably isn't suitable for young children. The instructions were easy to follow and little touches such as plants and bricks that represent rocks etc enhance the overall look of the set. The overall look of the set is scenic and there is a lot of attention to detsil, some aspects of the scenery are carefully built up brick by brick to create the landscape. I helped my son to put this set together as there were a lot of pices but he has already reconstructed it to his own specifications with no problems. As a stand alone set there is limited play value to this set but other individual animals/Steve can be bought cheaply in the blind bags and it goes well with the other box sets. This is the biggest and most expensive of the deadly 60 sets and I think it is good that it isn't too big or expensive, these sets arec definitely affordable. I think that this set is fairly well priced for what you get, it is very similar to lego and you pay for that build quality. My son is thrilled with this set and I would recommend this to any fans of animals, lego and deadly 60.

This review is from: Bindeez Pet Pals Adopt a Pet (Toy)
My 4 year old loves making and designing bindeez, our main problems with them is that we kept running out of beads and we didn't have enough trays, this set has helped a lot. Lots of the smaller (cheaper) bindeez sets are classed as refills so they don't include the trays which to be honest means that if you haven't got a bigger set, you can't make anything.

This set comes complete with 9 trays all in the shape of different animals, cat, 3 different dogs, pony, bird, rabbit, fish and one more (not entirely sure what this one is, hamster maybe?), a water sprayer, a bindeez pen, 6 pet tags, 6 display stands and approx 600 beads in about 8 differnt colours.

The animals can be fairly fiddly as the beads seem to rest very lightly on the indentations on the trays, although now that he has practiced my son can do these easily (very frustrating for him at first though)so younger children will probably need help to make these at first. Once each design is complete just spray the design with water, once dry the beads are stuck together. The instructioms say that the designs are dry in 10-15 minutes, to be honest I have found it takes longer and try to leave them a few hours otherwise they can break and need respraying to fix, maybe I spray them wrongly I don't know that's just what we have found. The finished designs are fairly fragile but they are more display than play toys and can be fixed if broken. There is a bead pen included but personally I don't think that it is very useful and the beads seem to get jammed. The beads have a bitter taste to stop children swallowing them so advise hand washing when you finish. The trays in this set are a cheap flimsy plastic, not the same material the big trays in other sets are made from but they still work, do look like they could easily be damaged if stepped on though. The beads come in little resealable packets which we found awkward so we bought a box to put them in 15 Compartment Crafts Plastic Storage Case Box.

The best part about this set is the amount of trays, now my son can creeate several designs at once rather than having to wait for each one to dry before he could start the next one. There are template guides to follow in the instruction book or you can choose your own mix of colours. The pet tags and display stands are a nice added touch. This set is currently on amazon for less than a fiver and I think that it is great value for money as my son has already had hours of fun making these, they're great for improving hand-to-eye co-ordination and boosting creativity. I think that it is a bit of a shame that the included trays are so flimsy and an included container for beads would be good but overall lots of good fun even if a bit of patience is required.

4.0 out of 5 stars look refreshed and ready to start the day, 15 Feb 2012
I've only had this foundation a few days but I really like it. Rimmel claims that Wake Me Up foundation has a 'light smooth texture for natural looking skin' and can 'eliminate the signs of tiredness', 'illuminates for a healthy glow' and 'increase elasticity of skin', it is also SPF 15.

The foundation comes in a slim glass bottle with a pearlescent orange lid. The foundation has a pump action which means that you can't accidentally squeeze too much out and waste it. I don't like to smother my face in too much foundation so I find that one shot of this foundation is more than enough to cover my face.

I apply this foundation over moisturised skin as I think foundations work better on a base. This foundation is smooth and glides well over skin, it blends easily and provides good coverage and not much is needed to cover my whole face. Bags and blemishes are hidden and my skin tone looks even and clear and my pores are less visible. The foundation contains 'illuminating pearls' and to be honest I was dreading finding glitter. If I rub some of the foundation into the back of my hand and hold it up to the light I can see it shimmering but I can't notice the shimmer on my face and my skin looks natural. My face looks brighter and fresh and does make me skin look a little less tired and more refreshed.

I haven't used this foundation long enough to know if it can help increase my skin's elasticity but I live in hope as it also claims to 'minimise signs of premature aging'. I'm not sure if it lasts the full 10 hours claimed but it seems to look better than my previous foundation at the end of my shift at work, my skin can get greasy over the day but I thought that it remained luminous and healthy looking rather than greasy. I think that this foundation does make my complexion look better and I will definitely continue using it. Having SPF 15 is an added bonus and I would recommend that people try out Rimmel's new Wake Me Up foundation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a go, 13 Feb 2012
This is Barry M's latest effects nail varnish. Similar in theory to the crackle or shatter varnishes around in that it is a top coat designed to create a pattern with the base colour showing through.

To achieve the croc effect, you first paint nails with a chosen base colour, I used Barry M Instant Effects Foil Nail Paint - Gold 320. When the base colour is touch dry (after about a minute) you then cover with a layer of Croc Nail Effect. It takes up to 3 minutes for the full croc effect to appear.

So, what did I think? One thing is that this effect is slightly trickier to get right, if you try to paint on dry nails then the top coat can't stick and just rubs off so you need to make sure that the nails are touch dry but not completely dry. I tried to create the effect using thicker coats on one hand and thinner on the other. Where the coat was thinner the effect is good but the pattern is very small and can only be seen close up, there were also sections that looked almost smudgy. Where I had applied a thicker coat, the effect was much more noticeable and it is probably better to use a thicker coat, too thivk though and I thought the croc effect was too big and didn't look good so really a bit of trial and error is required with this. I would advise putting a coat of clear varnish over the top to seal the coat as it does look as though the pattern could chip off. The other point to note is that you can't just paint and go like you can with the crackle as the effect takes longer to fully appear.

The overall effect of the croc varnish is good and is definitely more croc than crackle. It has a glossy finish rather than the matte of the crackle varnish but I still think you need a top coat over it. One of the things I liked about the crackle varnish was that it could be used to update my nails, so if I wore pink one day and it had slightly chipped I could use the crackle over the top to disguise the chips (lazy I know!) and because this needs to be done over varnish that hasn't dried completely this would only work if you put a layer of clear over the colour and then layered croc over that. Slightly time consuming. I think that overall I do like this croc effect and if you like trying out new nails then it's worth a go but I normally do my nails in a rush so I probably won't wear this very often.

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping and exciting, 7 Feb 2012

This is book three in the pegasus series and is an excellent addition to the other books and if you haven't read them already then i definitely recommend the series as a whole.

This book begins in Olympus where Emily lives along with her father, her best friend Joel and all the Olympians from Greek/Roman mythology. Having settled into their new home, (even teaching the Olympians to play football) life on Earth is becoming a distant memory, that is until they see a photo of a racehorse who looks suspiciously like Pegasus. Emily, Pegasus and friends travel to Earth to unwravel the mystery of the racehorse and end up discovering the CRU's worst crimes yet. Can Emily save Earth from the wrath of Olympus once Jupiter learns exactly what the CRU are capable of?

I have to admit that when I started this book I was unsure as to whether it could possibly have a storyline to rival the other two books as the main threat from the first story, the nirads was explained and worked out in book two, I didn't know how the story could continue on but it actually links in brilliantly from the first two focusing istead though on saving Earth rather than Olympus. The CRU are back and are more evil than ever, all the best characters from the first books return (although we don't see much of Cupid) and some great new characters are introduced such as Alexis the sphinx and Frankie. Emily's flame powers are magnified along with some new ones she has no idea how to control, stronger than ever, she must learn to harness her powers or risk destroying everything around her.

I thought that this book was great, Emily was strong and defiant and stood up for everything that she believed in and I think her character has really developed. I enjoyed the Vegas setting and the idea of Area 51. For me the CRU remains one of the best aspects of these books as they are such an evil, such a threat, disguised as the greater good and I liked that we learn a bit more about them in this book. I thoroghly enjoyed this book even more so because I didn't think it could compare to the others in the series and it was every bit as good. The story was fast paced and gripping and the climax even more exciting as the characters struggled to save Earth. If you have read the other two books then this is a must read and if you haven't then I would definitely recommend the series as a whole. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for dinosaur fans, 3 Feb 2012

This is part of Lego's new dinosaur range, this set is one of the cheaper of the new dinosaur sets, we already have the smallest set LEGO Dino 5882: Coelophysis Ambush Attack and this was what my son wanted to get next and saved his money for. He is thoroughly enjoying playing with the little set and has saved like mad to get it, found it with a few pounds off too so thanks amazon.
In the set you get a flying dinosaur, Pteranodon , a lego minifigure, a watch tower with net shooter and a speed boat.
We opened the set yesterday and put the dinosaur together, it has wings which clip on so easily my son can re-attach them himself if they fall off, the jaw is also removeable and we have had to keep pushing the bottom jaw back on as my son was making him open his mouth a bit vigorously. The wings are flexible so you can make him flap them and he can hold the fish in his jaw (or the man if he is especially hungry). He is orangey/brown with a red pattern on his head and he does have a bit of a ferocious look in his eye, he has four lego studs on his back so the man could ride on his back if he doesn't want to catch him.. My son thinks the pteranadon is amazing and has had him fly all around the house diving and attacking.
We didn't get round to opening the rest of the set until today whereby we found my son had misplaced the instructions, I panicked looking at all the little bits but was able to find downloadable instructions on the lego website (really good to know although my son found the instructions as soon as I'd finished).
The minifigure has a brown hat with goggles and looks pretty tough although he has drops water on his face and we can't decide if he is sweating or just wet from the sea. He comes with a gun which you attatch a syringe to, tranquilliser gun? and a walkie-talkie. Personally I think this set would be better with two minifigures, luckily my son has another and it is playable with one but is much better with two.
The speed boat is fairly basic and was easy to build but is definitley fit for purpose. The tower takes a lot longer to build, it isn't difficult although I think my four year old would have struggled on his own. The tower has a control centre with a dinosaur radar so the man can check his screen to see if the dino is approaching. There is a fish attached to a stick (bait), when the dino comes for the fish you can shoot a net at him to catch him with. The net shooter is so simple but so effective, pretty impressed!
This set is fairly small but my son is having a lot of fun with it. Lego isn't cheap but it is good quality and very durable. This set is a great addition to my son's lego dinosaur collection but would also make a great starter set, we think a second figure would be good but it isn't necessary would definately recommend to fans of Lego or dinosaurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some extra protection for bumps and drops, 29 Jan 2012
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this to provide my son's LeapPad with some extra protection. We have a simple neoprene case to store it in when he is not using it but once out of the case I felt it was slightly vulnerable.
This gel skin is very similar to the sort of ones that you can buy for smart phones, firm yet flexible plastic that you sort of stretch around the LeapPad and once on, it cannot fall off. It provides the LeapPad with a sort of shock resistant coating to the back, sides and corners (obviously doesn't cover the screen but you can buy separate screen protectors). There are spaces in all the correct places so that you can still acess the stylus, use the camera ansd USB cable etc. Buying a skin isn't a necessity for a LeapPad but it does give an added sense of peace of mind when little ones are playing with their expensive toy. It fits well and the LeapPad looks pretty cool snuggled into it's new gel skin. My son is pretty impressed and I am too if it keeps the LeapPad safe.
Like the other review states, this product isn't really worth much more than it's RRP of £7.99 so it's worth shopping around or waiting for it to be available from amazon directly at this price with free delivery. Would definitely reccomend to LeapPad owners and their parents though, well worth it for peace of mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly for LeapPad too!, 17 Jan 2012

I have to sat that it was it's low price which initially drew me to this item. For over 6 months it provided a safe haven for my keyboard kindle, now that I no longer own a kindle I have found that it is the perfect size for my son's LeapPad. Both Kindle and LeapPad fit snugly into the case. The case is soft and is able to protect the items from bumps and knocks. Much safer than having the items uncovered in a bag. Was pleased to find a cheap case for kindle, absolutely thrilled to get a LeapPad one for this price. Highly recommended!
