5.0 out of 5 stars WOW -now this is what you call a box set, 4 April 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
i ordered this boxset having bought, quite some time ago, a very limited leather bound complete book set of the Chronicles of Narnia direct from the U.S.A.for future appreciation (hopefully ??)
these were/are for my own children once they are old enough to appreciate the value of such items.
the whole point of telling you this is to relate my own personal pleasure with the overall quality of the limited edition boxset on offer from amazon.
sometimes i am sure we have all ordered "limited editions/ boxsets " of our favourite author, singer, group or composer etc ,etc only to find that when the item arrives you are somewhat let down by the quality of the be honest sometimes it can be cheap and downright tacky.
this is not the case here - from the moment the knock on the door (not by the postman ) leads to the open eyed amazement of the size of the protective postal packaging - you know you are in for a treat.
i will not bore you with any description of the film as i am sure you will have seen it already at the cinema ,i am just bowled over by the contents of the boxset.
the overall box contains all the goodies mentioned above in amazons opening precis, but its just such quality -even the blue box that contains the lamppost keyring is made to look of "a certain period ".
the cinematic book is also excellent and great for my kids to relate all the actors.if you start to add up the individual value of all the contents it must be quite a saving by buying the boxset.
in summary ,if you like quality limited edition products then this will not fail to please.

5.0 out of 5 stars SPOOKY ,MACABRE JAZZ !!!, 22 Nov. 2005

This review is from: Smiling and Waving (Audio CD)
having just bought this album via a link from the website [...] i am very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the some of you may have noticed the website i refer to is that of Porcupines Tree,s mainman, the enigmatic Steven Wilson.if you look at the credits it would seem that this work was done in the early 90,s,with Steven Wilson at the production desk.
as you would expect now that you know of S.W,s involvement the production values are unbelievable.there are always strange background noises ( that do not put you off the music - merely enhance it )and FX going on.
this is very late night "jazz noire" if there is such a phrase !?!
buy it and see for yourself.if you have an open mind and like bjork etc etc you are in for a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book, 14 Sept. 2005
This review is from: Noah's Rocket (Paperback)
having seen the author on a local news channel ("look north " anyone? ),i heard about the book and tried to find it in the" big chains " to no avail.
at this years yorkshire airshow there was an exhibition of the U.K,s only private rocket and there to my absolute surprise standing next to the rocket was tony the author.
he autographed the book for my 5 year old son and with great delight we started to read the book together that very night( once the ringing had stopped in our ears from the Typhoon !!!!).
my son loved the book with its narrative being based upon the Biblical Noah.
we laughed out loud at the image of Stanley the hairy spider.
the moral issues are there if you want to highlight these or just read it as a damn good and funny book.
at the end of the book there is a picture of the actual building in london that probably inspired the "rocket " the Swiss- re building in son said to me - oh look dad that,s the rocket and i told him that it was a real place - he doesn,t believe me that a building could actually look like that.
to finalise - well done tony what a great story - with some very deep messages in there for ALL ages !!
if only all the bad people would really go away and my neighbour would be so friendly !!!!!!!
read the book and see what i mean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Progressive Rock Music, 14 Feb. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
having just bought this release on the back of a decent"ish" Classic Rock review(feb.2005)i must say how listening to this c.d. on a s.a.c.d machine brought a smile to my face with its sheer musical quality.
you,ve all heard the claims of the "next pink floyd "etc etc but this set of songs really does have that very mellow, melancholy charm of Floyd circa 1971 -74,but with a more contemporary production. The vocals, criticised in Classic Rock, are simply fabulous -if you like that laconic David Gilmour sound(i do).The mastering on the s.a.c.d. version is second to none you are placed within the music rather than,on some discs that have sound effects coming at you for no reason out of the rear speakers.
If ,like me,you are a lover of all things "prog", whatever that really does mean, then you are in for a real treat - sit back ,turn it up and enjoy the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic space rock - the finest hawkwind album, 20 July 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
in 1975 when i was just 13 i decided to move out of the black sabbath, led zep circle and try something different.this was the album i purchased(i do remember johnny walker on radio 1,s album show saying this was for stereo hi fi freaks only !).
this album is serious space rock - the opening linked tracks -assault and battery and the golden void are absolutely the joining section the mellotron makes sounds that are not of this world(really !!!)listen to it and see what i mean - its at around the 4 minute mark.
you get the vocal interludes by michael moorcock( my literary hero)which add to the atmosphere of the album especially if you play it at loud volume - like i did in the 6th form common room !
my own favourite is opa loka(awesome bass by dave brock)now hasn,t that track influenced the ravers over the last few years ?
this album needs a proper reissue with 5.1 surround - listen to the sacd of dark side of the moon for the quality i think could be produced.
this album rocks and should be in the same heirachy as dark side ,tubular bells, led zep 4 etc it if you can find a copy - if not lets hope dave brock reads this and does something positive about a reissue of this absolute classic rock album.

4.0 out of 5 stars hard, heavy but not many sales!?!, 19 July 2004

This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
i bought this album when it first came out in 1975/6 merely on the strength of its cover - check it out and see what i mean.being a fan of all things british e.g led zep, sabbath hawkwind etc etc i was looking for something new and did i find it.
on the first track "natural thing"the guitar sound from schenker is awesome - what a mother of all riffs.the album contrasts the songs well from rockers to slower ballads.
this is not the ufo of the lights out/obsession era but just as good in a more subtle(!) way.even franky miller gets a look in with one of his "pop songs" being covered for a possible single release i would have thought.
this album did not sell too well but things were to change in the next 12 months with the departure of danny peyronnel(ex heavy metal kids ) and the incoming paul reymond on keyboards/guitar
.i love this album purely for the attacking sound of schenkers flying V(plus a few decent songs).give it a try ?

4.0 out of 5 stars its only rock and roll - but i like it !?!, 15 July 2004

an album of covers - why not ?
from the opening stomp of the blue cheer cover of summertime blues to the rather excellent closer of crossroads(listen to the 3rd guitar solo for the wonderful geddy lee bass counterpoint(beat that jack bruce )this album rocks.
the sound is clear, uncluttered and very powerful.even my wife (who is not a big fan of rush)said "this is very catchy "!!!
the songs stay true to their origins but have that distinctive rush sound.nice to hear untreated drums and alex releasing all those years of no solos on recent rush albums on this E.P.
this is a refreshing listen for all fans of real music - roll on the u.k. 2004 tour - i can,t wait.
