5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best edition of the Homer and Virgil on the market ..., 24 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the best edition of the Homer and Virgil on the market and the verse rendered by Fagles with and introduction by Knox full of details about who Homer was [or might have been]and Virgil as well as how the books were composed are a worthwhile edition. The editions themselves are beautifully bound and very durable and the pages are deckle cut which harks back to old leather bound editions. A must for readers and students and the price works out at less than £9.33 a book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have a pedometer that records your steps in miles, 10 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First of all I'd say that Omron are the only choice in pedometers for accuracy. I bought this model, like so many people when the one I had fell of my belt running for a bus. The only way I could replace the same model was to buy from a third party seller with bad feedback so I opted for this model because, while it doesn't look so cool, records steps in miles. It also records calories and fat burnt off. I keep it in my pocket and it is every bit as accurate as the model it replaced. One negative comment. This model, unlike the former, does not go into sleep mode so battery life is shortened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Walking On Air, 8 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I recently bought a pair of Karimor Bodmin Hiking shoes which were a good fit, apart from allowing my heel to slip slightly on steep gradients. I'd already bought two pairs of Bridgedale Coolfusion for the coming winter when shoes will be exchanged for boots as the weather worsens. However it seemed a good reason to try them out in my hikers to see if they would deal with the heel fit. They did more than that. The extra padding on heel and sole not only made my shoes feel snug and stopped the slipping but gave so much extra support to my feet that I turned a four mile hike into a seven mile hike. Although I already have two pairs I've ordered two more and at Amazon prices I really can't go wrong as my local hiking outfitters sell these for £15.99 a pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better sizing than New Balance. A Great hiking shoe., 8 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have always depended on New Balance for trainers and walking shoes but the last NB hiking shoes I bought here were too narrow - something that I didn't become aware of until I was half way through a six mile hilly walk. Too late to return they are currently in my wardrobe with shoe stretchers in. I bought Karrimor Bodmin Weathertite as an alternative and am completely satisfied. I've completed a 4 mile hike in them and they are roomy with a good grip. So roomy in fact that they are best with a pair of hiking socks. I shall definitely buy the same shoe again when these begin to show signs of wear. They are waterproof too as I proved by trekking through some deep puddles. No penetration at all though the water came up over the toes. While I shall continue to buy New Balance trainers for Summer use Karrimor have my vote for hiking shoes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Narrow, 5 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've always bought New Balance trainers and found them a perfect fit but these hiking shoes are too narrow and pinch at the toes. Unfortunately this is something that is felt in the middle of a 5 mile walk and not trying them out indoors for a couple of hours so by the time you discover the fault it's too late to return them. I'm currently trying to 'break them in' something I've never had to do with a trainer, hiking shoe or boot. I've also bought a pair of Karimor Watertite hiking shoes which are spot on in size and truly comfortable for miles of any type of walking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect companion for the new iMac., 18 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After ten years of getting by with the 2002 G4 iMac I treated myself just before Christmas to the new super thin iMac. I have nothing but praise for it except that in slimming the Mac down so much the speakers have suffered and sound tinny.; very little base and screaming treble. So I went in search of the perfect speakers planning to spend up to £500. I was so impressed with the reviews for the Bowers & Wilkins here and on the Apple website that I ordered a pair of these amazing 'monitor' speakers. The best money I've spent apart from the Mac itself. Music like Coplands' 'Appalachian Spring, is rendered in all its rich detail. I was hearing instruments not heard before from my computer. Just as surprising was Underworld's 'Born Slippy Nuxx' the beat simply filled the room. The bass is astounding in so small a speaker but nothing is lost in the higher registers which is details and crystal clear. So I add my voice to other reviewers in singing nothing but praise for these speakers. They should definitely be played through the usb port but don't forget to alter the sound source to MMI through system preferences. As computer speakers go these are the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alchemy - Music Forever Before Its Time, 18 July 2012
This review is from: Alchemy - 1st (Vinyl)
No band of the 1960s and 1970s achieved the degree of ethnic fusion that the Third Ear Band achieved on Alchemy (1969), one of the albums that invented 'World-Music'. An acoustic chamber ensemble of (essentially) tablas, oboe, viola and cello performed Indian, medieval, native American, gypsy, middle-eastern, minimalist, jazz, classical and folk music, all within the same song. The four suites on their second album, Third Ear Band (1970), pushed the idea even further: the ethnic sources are not recognizable anymore, and the music flows like a stream of consciousness, a spiritual experience, a daydream. De-contextualized, the "third ear" music is closer to Buddhism meditation than to western composition. The band was equally successful on Macbeth (1972), that added electric and electronic sounds to their ethnic stew.

Douay-Rheims and Clementina Vulgata: English-Latin Bible
Douay-Rheims and Clementina Vulgata: English-Latin Bible
by Baronius Press
Edition: Bonded Leather

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Produced Bible, 18 Jun 2012
Still in print and published by Baronius Press for just £59.95 this Bible is truly special.

The Clementine Vulgate was proclaimed the official Latin Bible of the Church after the Reformation. From St. Jerome's time, through the Middle Ages, until vernacular editions were introduced, educated Catholics throughout the world were familiar with the Vulgate.
Those familiar with the Douay-Rheims Bible will know that it is one of the most beautiful and accurate Bible translations available today - a word for word translation of the Clementine Vulgate.

Having both Bibles side by side allows us to see exactly where the vernacular translation came from. Even those with limited Latin skills will be able to follow along, using the Douay-Rheims translation as an aid. You'll see how the Douay-Rheims is a literal translation of the classic Vulgate. It is a beautiful, captivating read. The Biblia Sacra is not difficult to understand and it doesn't take much study of Latin to be able to get through the texts passably.

Included in this Bible are Challoner's notes, and the texts found in the appendix to the Vulgate, namely 3 and 4 Esdras and the prayer of Manasses (in Latin with an English translation). This makes the Bible totally comprehensive and ideal for theology students.
Owning one of these beautiful Bibles will give you great pleasure each time you read it, and ensure that your family is familiar with sacred scripture in Latin as well as English.

Bound in leather with ornate gold blocked cover and spine. Gilded page edges, head and tail bands and two satin ribbons.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mass As It Should Be, 18 Jun 2012

This review is from: The Holy Mass (Hardcover)
A beautiful little book with green leather cover engraved with gold and including a ribbon maker from one of the best of traditional Catholic publisher's - Baronius Press. At £12.95 [RRP] this is really good value - but don't pay more. From the beginning the author takes you through The Tridentine High Mass and takes great care to explain the movements of Priest and Deacons in celebrating the sacred liturgy. In the closing pages he takes care to include The Ordinary of The Mass in Latin and English. A beautifully realised and informative guide to The Holy Mass.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Devotional Classic., 17 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review does not refer to the paperback copy.

Bound in flexible brown leather with gold titles and gilt edged pages this is a beautifully produced book by Baronius Press, with two ribbon markers. It is a collection which repays constant reading and reflection by graces received. At 423 pages it contains all of Blessed John Henry Newman's Meditations and Devotions and is the type of book which one wants to have always near one. Whether meditating on The Immaculate conception, The Meditations and Intercessions for Good Friday or following The Stations of The Cross, Newman's prose is beautiful yet unflowery, concise and fully expressive. Owning this book is like having a dearly loved friend and guide who has agreed to be your Spiritual Director. His words become your own and you may find yourself wanting to take notes. Newman himself said that he never meditated without a pen in his hand so you'll be in good company.

NOTE: The Paperback copy this review appears under SHOULD NOT be purchased. It is by an unknown publisher, full of faults and typos and missing text. AVOID.
