5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic start to a great spin-off, 25 Dec 2003
I am a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 1-7 (to the point of obsession). Halfway through the series Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt created a spin-off series for one of Buffy's best-loved characters - Angel/Angelus.
In my view nothing can compare to my love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer but Angel comes a very close second. It has a darker tone than Buffy and is based around more adult characters. Despit the darker tone it still manages to mix drama, horror and comedy seamlessly along with many other genres.
The first season introduced the concept of Wolfram and Hart and our three core characters - Cordelia, Angel, and Wesley.
Favourites from the series include:
"I Will Remember You" - seeing Buffy crossover to Angel was amazing. The story was heartbreaking and funny at the same time when Angel became human and then gave it up to fight the good fight alongside his true love.
"Hero" - it was sad to see a beloved character die nine episodes into the first season but this episode really added some depth to one of my favourite characters on Buffy and Angel - Cordelia. Seeing her deal with the visions over the course of Angel has been a great storyline.
"To Shanshu in LA" - this remains one of my favourite episodes of Angel. It really gave us our first in depth look into what Wolfram and Hart were about and the cliffhanger when Darla appears at the end was stunning. It kept me guessing for two months.
All in all this is a great start to a series that still continues to grow and get better in it's fifth year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeunet at his best!, 19 Aug 2002
This review is from: Amelie [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
Amelie is one of those fantastic films that only come along once in a long while and make you think hard about life and what you're doing. Well, that’s my opinion anyway; I’ll leave it up to you to decide what effect it has on your life, if any. The cinematography in the film is fantastic. It’s very warm and vibrant and the set design is just as colorful complimenting the camera techniques.
I was entranced from beginning to end. Amelie is truly a vision and a modern day masterpiece. And it has the kind of ending that gives you the warm and fuzzies.

5.0 out of 5 stars She may have died... twice, but she's still pretty., 22 July 2002
Right from the word go i was hooked on Buffy. I couldn't wait to get in from school and go watch the next episode. Now, six years down the line, i'm still completely fascinated by the show. There have been many negative responses about the shows sixth year saying it took a totally wrong direction whilst Joss Whedon abandoned it and it was the worst season by far. Just for the record, i think this is the best season by far!!! Yes, it has gone in a completely new direction but the direction it takes is fantastic. It is darker, sexier, more dramatic, and more involving. Willow's addiction to magic and the eventual consequences of Tara's death makes for the best television i've seen in a long time! The metaphor was fabulous. The only thing i am sorry about is Tara's death. I don't think i stopped crying for a week - but there you go, stands to reason. It took hold and never let go, that's what televisions all about!!! Outstanding episodes - Hell's Bells, Normal Again, Two to Go, Grave... and the rest. Buy it now!!
