4.0 out of 5 stars last of the really great, 27 Feb 2012
this movie marks the last of the really great dracula movies by hammer losing their way slightly with later films.after a priest accidently awakes dracula he seeks revenge on the monsignor who had sealed his castle with a cross.for me the best scene comes at the end and dracula is dying the priest kneels and prays a very enlightening moment.lee has very little to say yet again but does not need to as the acting and script and filming are excellent.cushing is not in this one either which is a shame but is still one of the top three of the dracula/lee movies.the only reason i cannot put this as the best is the lack of cushing but thats just picking hairs.

4.0 out of 5 stars good sequal, 27 Feb 2012
this is one of the better sequals of the dracula movies and revolves around two couples holidaying ending up at the castle of dracula.lee returns to play dracula but does not appear until just after halfway through the film and even then does not speak a single word.the only thing this film lacks is peter cushing as van helsing but all the same it is still a very good film.

3.0 out of 5 stars not ultimate, 27 Feb 2012
there are some good films amongst the 21 but there is also a lot of rubbish.most of hammers best films do not appear such as the original dracula, frankenstien, mummy and werewolf films but for the small price of 25 pounds it is still good value.i was expecting more horror films but it does have a mixture of horror, thriller and sci fi movies some of which you would not ordinarily purchase which turn out to be quite good.all in all its good value but also dissapointing at the lack of hammers best quality films.

5.0 out of 5 stars fangs aint what they used to be, 27 Feb 2012
very few films today can match the atmosphere of this and other movies made all that time ago including the coppola version,it also outstrips any of the other dracula films made by hammer with the exception of possibly brides of dracula that does not actually have dracula in it.this is based on the book by bram stoker, cushing is great and lee fantastic both of these actors epitomise their parts in the way that boris karloff will always be frankensteins monster.as a lover of horror movies this for me is the best and it achieves this without tricks and much in the way of special effects just good acting and film making.

5.0 out of 5 stars wolfman, 26 Feb 2012
this movie has great special effect great scares and really good acting.this is the best werewolf movie you will ever see it easily tops american werewolf or dog soldiers which is amazing considering how good they are.it is based on the original universal wolfman which was a brave step that paid off.anthony hopkins is brilliant as talbot snr and this film has all the atmosphere that the universal movie had.this is not just a film its a masterpiece of gothic horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars the greatest western, 26 Feb 2012
This review is from: Tombstone [DVD] (DVD)
this is the greatest western you will ever see,the acting is supurb with a long list of great actors the one that stands out head and shoulders above everyone is val kilmer as doc holiday he steals every scene hes in.this film came out the same time as wyatt earp with kevin costner which was a pity because costner was the big star at the time.the costner movie is long winded and costners droning voice does not help where as tombstone is a far superior film.the action is brilliant and the brooding stares of wyatt and co make this a most enthralling movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars cushings a soulman, 26 Feb 2012
this is as creative as it gets frankenstein transplants the soul of a beheaded man into his deformed girlfriend after he is wrongly accused of killing her father.she then goes on a murderous rampage on the men who did kill him.derek fowlds (heartbeat) appears as one of the men.the movie is entertaining and enjoyable hammer making great efforts to not do the same old story over again.this is one of my favourite films in the series and does not get enough credit.cushing is as good in this as he ever was and plays frankenstein as only he can.

3.0 out of 5 stars last hurrah, 25 Feb 2012
this was the last outing for cushing as frankenstein it is also the goriest.the acting is good as is the storyline but certain things spoil it for me one is the ridiculous hair piece cushing has the other is the monster more a gorilla than a man a very poor monster by my standards.it is entertaining but my least favourite of the sequence and like cushing himself this film looks very tired.

This review is from: Backdraft [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
the acting in this film is generally good the special effects are spectacular but the all american machoness slightly spoils it.the cast is top class and the storyline is good, infact there is much to recommend this film.if you want all action thrills and spills you could do no better than this its one of the best movies of its kind.

4.0 out of 5 stars a comedy of horrors, 25 Feb 2012
not quite sure what to make of this film it is well made well acted and well filmed but is not the traditional hammer film.It is a mixture of horror and comedy a severed arm giving a two finger salute is an example of this.theres plenty of bulging boobs and a good number of deaths which should keep the traditional hammer fan happy.the reason it was not well recieved i think it was ten years or so ahead of its time, if it had been released about the time of american werewolf it would have been thought more of.the acting cast range from ralph bates and kate omara to david prowse the overall quality of acting is probably better than most of hammers frankenstein movies but it has lost two things one being atmosphere the other peter cushing. It is a good film just not for the purist,it is a irreverent retelling of the original frankenstein and certainly worth the small price tag.
