4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 9 Dec. 2011
Brilliant!

Good quality wipe clean set for learning Chinese!

It would have been 100% but the pen that came with it lasted 5 mins.

Please buy it anyway and get another pen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning letter sounds / phonics, 9 Dec. 2011
If you want to teach or support your child in learning their letters and then to read - buy this book 1 and 2,3,4,5,6 and 7!

Please do not (as I did) buy the other set of books ALSO FROM JOLLY PHONIC (Jolly Phonics Workbooks: Books 1-7 ) because they are small, black and white and very, very dull.

This set of books is colourful, apealing, full of stickers with stick games, packed with different activities. My daughter aged nearly three then three years old loved and loves these books.

How to use them? Best to get going with letter on as many levels as possible. We used a DVD called FUN WITH PHONICS (which is the BBC in conjunction with Jolly ish phonics). It has great animation for each letter which your kids will soon learn off buy heart. After a couple of months of that, my girl knew most of the letters (exept for some confussion with - p,b,d, which is always a bit difficult for kids in the begining). Once she knew her letters, these books came alive to her and she'll sit down with me for an hour with one.

There are also some wipe clean material out there to write/trace letters and words. Lots of wipe clean books (wright with a felt-tip then wipe off) are available, but the most popular at home has been small wipe clean cards. Why? Kids are smaller than us, at the table its hard to reach so far over to the top of a book whereas the cards all have words along the bottom, exactly where little hands can reach them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Badly presented, worse than a textbook, 9 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: AS Biology Revision [DVD] (DVD)
Please do not buy this DVD. The DVD is presented by two very well-meaning but clearly inexperienced persons. The information contained is given as bulletpoint fact with very, very little explanation. There is no animation, no great videos, sketchs or drawings that should bring the topic to life. This is a powerpoint-style format, but not an interesting one, sorry. To the makers, good effort, but sorry. this is just not quality material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, looks corney to adults but 2-4 year olds love it, 10 July 2011
My little girl of 2.5 has this and one other of the series, and she loves it and begs for it ... been popular for 4 months and more so all the time. I put it away from time to time so as not to wear it out and when its back, ITS BACK! Great effort!

4.0 out of 5 stars its great but a few problems, 30 Mar. 2011
This review is from: Peppa Pig abc (Paperback)
This is a great book/activity book for helping your child learn their first letters.

Some problems, though.

The book uses alternative styles for some of the letters. For example, the 'a' uses the curly 'a' (as seen in this review) and the 'a' as it appears on the front cover. This is really confusing for first timers (easr enough for older kids, and worth explaining).

There's also some use of 'L' as a simple straight line as well as the 'I' as an exact same straight line, Again, very confusing for beginers (unecessarily so) but worth explaining to older kids who will encounter different styles in their early readings.

There are a few poor choises in some of the "[this letter) stands for" phrases. For example, "X is for "Xylophone"". Early learners should really be given examples of 'closest fit sounds' for their letter. This example is better fit for children who are already confident with their phonics and are now ready to look at the alternative sounds associated with the same letters. Again, for more experienced readers, well worth pointing out the example and comparing with some others.

Other than that, a good book. Your kids will enjoy the stickers which are good motivaters and make the book very interactive.

5.0 out of 5 stars 25 months and loves this!, 19 Nov. 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
My 24 month year old loves this. The recomendation is for 3 years plus, but my 25 month year old loves turning the turn table, putting Thomas in and taking him out of the sheds, saying night night to him, opening and closing the doors (front and back) etc.

Nothing to assemble, the track just folds out and away when finished, which is a great space saver when stored and keeps any engines you might want to collect all together.

THERE'S JUST ONE ENGINE with this and most other packs, which they state, fair enough, but you always see a number of trains being used on the packing images.

Durable? Yeeesss,,,, but there are always some children who can break any plastic toy (except lego).

Before buyying this, I bought the Thomas 17 piece Starter Pack. i needn't have bothered as this one has its own track, and is bigger.

Educational? Not if you leave them alone to play, but if you sit with them and explain it all, yes, a very good educational aid.

4.0 out of 5 stars great gift, but overpriced, 19 Oct. 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Gruffalo Giant Snap Cards
these cards are not that much bigger than normal playing cards so I wouldn't say they were GIANT ..

they are not more durable than normal playing cards, perhpas they should have been as they are for smaller, less careful hands.

Educational? It really depends on what you do as a parent with the cards. As educational as you care to make them.

5.0 out of 5 stars well illustrated, great stickers ... fun for all the family, 19 Oct. 2010
thanks to this book and Shrek, my 24 month year old now expects castles, knights, princeses, crowns, swords and drzgons to all go together.

This book is full of lovely illustrations and many, many strickers to complete the medievil events presented in this book (weopon making, entertainment, dragon quest etc) ...

Interest is maintained in the book while you can explain the diferent aspects of medievil life to your little ones.

Great stuff

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard backed book with soft pages, 12 Oct. 2010
The hard backed book provides great protection for delicate pages.

The elecronic noise pad provides a great further focus for children.

My nearly two year old loves this book and loves the noises!

I'd have prefered the noises for each to have tied better with the story.

For example, the footprints don't make footprint sounds and themouse doesn't make a mouse sound.

They could have tied the sounds with the animal sounds from the DVD of the Gruffalo (BUY THE DVDIF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE IT) just as they have done here with the frog picture (which gasps).

Having said that, my daughter sat and played with this for ages the first time and still loves it and she is the ultimate judge as to weather this is a great product. She found no fault at all.

Full marks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly educational skeleton, 28 Sept. 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
Good quality foam

easily fits together and stays together.

durable (could have been a little more durable, i feel but still not easily broken but its not the floor mat/puzzle strenght you may be used to).

Conects well for little fingers.

looks like a skeleton without being scary.

Couldn't find anything like this anywhere, my nearly two year old loves it and so do I but i feel it is a bit overpriced. Having said that, buy it anyway. We're learning the names of bones together with the added help of a skeleton sticker book (not book of sticker skeletons) and to make it nice, a classic book called FUNNYBONES which you may remember from years ago. All from Amazon.
