Racing Through the Dark: The Fall and Rise of David Millar
Racing Through the Dark: The Fall and Rise of David Millar
by David Millar
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.98

3.0 out of 5 stars Overly ghostwritten, 12 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The writing is rather cinematic at times, it feels somewhat over-polished. Sorry to say that I can't help but feel that if Millar was a committed drugs cheat, this is what he would have written to get back into the good books.
Good use of images throughout, but the overly-ghostwritten cinema-script fashion let it down somewhat.

Put Me Back On My Bike: In Search of Tom Simpson (Yellow Jersey Cycling Classics)
Put Me Back On My Bike: In Search of Tom Simpson (Yellow Jersey Cycling Classics)
by William Fotheringham
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.83

2.0 out of 5 stars there is a lot of filler and it is only a little better than reading wikipedia, 12 May 2015
Fotheringham's passion for Simpson is evident in this book, but it's not sure what it is and as a whole it's rather disjointed. He tries to make the case that Simpson was greater than Merckx, which is embarrassing; there is a lot of filler and it is only a little better than reading wikipedia. Took a sustained effort to finish and I know two others who simply gave up. I wouldn't bother with the second half of the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Excellent comfort, shoddy construction - won't last 6 months, 12 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You have to worry about shoes that are guaranteed for 6 months only. First pair I was advised by the manufacturers to go for the size up, which was incorrect. Sellers FYFO were excellent in replacing. Second pair started to tear at the seams, seller FYFO were excellent at replacing. Third pair are not falling apart after three months (no, I am not doing adventure running in them! Just light office use). I pity FYFO for having to deal with this.
Excellent shoes in anything but durability/construction. If they didn't fall apart they would get 10/10, sellers are absolute stars, sadly vivo barefoot can't make shoes that last more than a couple months. I would avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great experience for fans that don't live in the US ..., 21 April 2015
This review is from: Glean (MP3 Download)
Another solid album form the two Johns. The big idea with this album was the production, released after a number of weeks of youtube dial-a-song, fans got to experience the release of new material and see it transformed into an album. A great experience for fans that don't live in the US to see the Giants develop new material.
If you haven't already, follow them on dial-a-song, then get the album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect only for the Collector, 11 Jun. 2004
This review is from: pastperfect (DVD)
The first VnV DVD release, long awaited and long overdue. The tracks featured are pretty much their Greatest hits, the picture and sound quality is very good, and there is a promise of a bonus featurette DVD and an extra CD-ROM. So why only three stars?
In fact it's a pretty poor depiction of a VnV concert. The viewer is first struck that the crowd shots don't look like they are to speed with the music, and some are possibly filmed for different songs and spliced in. They use a really good technique where they splice in some computer generated footage over some of their tracks, enhancing the footage, but they don't really make good use of it - actually they use it most in the ending track, "electronaut", hiding the best audience reactions and also the great end to their set. For those who weren't there, you really miss out.
Also, the track choice is a great selection of VnV tracks, but would really have been enhanced with a couple rarities (something from "burning empires" or "advance and follow"), one of the bands' joint sets with the support group, or their cover of Front 242's "circling overland".
Finally, the limited edition isn't that much to talk about, the second DVD is the standard bonus DVD (watch once then ignore), and the CD-ROM is a total waste of space (a couple of live tracks and a bunch of photos).
To summarise, this will not live up to one of their concerts, you'd be better off saving the money to see them live, and they would have been better served releasing a live CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Zeppelin Live Album, 14 Oct. 2003
A sort of Live "Best of" album, with the best version of "Moby Dick" recorded and an almost 45 minute version of "Dazed and Confused". Returned at last to the original format, while retaining the functionality of a CD. If you only buy one Zeppelin album, make it this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eats Big Towns, 14 Oct. 2003
This review is from: Godzilla [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Classic Creatures stuff here! For those of you who can't wait for the album, or who need to have the extra tracks this one is just great. A step back from the almost industrial sounds of Anima Animus, but not quite as far back as their earliest works (while some thumping tribal sounds remain). It's great, it's worth buying - for new fans and old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Album, 23 Sept. 2003
A classic Zeppelin album, a must for fans new and old.
Worth buying again just for the packaging. Why do you not own this?

4.0 out of 5 stars If it itches, scratch it!, 1 July 2003
Does exactly what it says on the tin - 7 years after they split up, the Banshees are back for just one more tour. A compulsive Banshee fan I bought this before checking the track list, so I was extremely surprised to see that such an emphasis was put on the older songs. As per usual the Banshees are happy to surprise us, and give a more mature sound to these older songs, while not loosing any of the original Punk power of their early years.
Although I was pleased to see that they avoided a bubble-gum greatest hits tour (well, what would you expect) fans will be a bit disappointed by the fact that the album holds far less tracks than the DVD, and misses out some of the old favourites. Really this is an album that could have done with being a double LP.
To sum up, this is a must for the fans, but if you are less familiar with the Banshees pick up "Once/Twice Upon a Time", or "Nocturne" if you want a live album. This does merit 4.5 stars though, especially for a surprisingly fantastic rendition of "Peek-a-booh"

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Zeppelin Album, In a Classic Packaging, 1 July 2003
While the track listing speak for themselves, the greatest thing about this album is the new packaging BUY IT WHILE YOU CAN!!
I own the entire Zeppelin catalog on Vinyl, but never took the step to CD - mostly because of what some albums lost visually in the new format, this is true no more, and my bank balance has suffered!
Compared to other Zeppelin albums, this one ranks at the top along with "zoso/runes" and "The Song Remains the Same". If you do not own this album, or own it in some other format, then buy it, you have no excuse!
