Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes (Rose Gardner Mystery, Book 1)
Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes (Rose Gardner Mystery, Book 1)
Price: £0.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Rose's mystery, 7 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Rose 'sees' her own murder and having hardly lived life due to her controlling mother decides to write a bucket list of wishes. After a row with her mother Rose comes home late and finds her mother dead, murdered. As other reviews have mentioned the police investigation is rubbish, Rose is back in the house soon after 'cleaning up'. Her mysterious neighbour is there to add a bit of romance and help when she puts herself in to risky situations - why does she decide to stay in the house though a murderer is out there? Everyone at the funeral think Rose is the suspect and her new haircut and clothes don't help. The police also believe she is their suspect but I wouldn't say this is a crime novel. Rose does not spend any time grieving for her mother, even joking with her neighbour about the horrific way in which her mother is murdered.
I didn't pay for this book so cannot be too disappointed.

Would suit younger girls especially due the pocket money price (under £5.00 when I ordered). The crystal stone is a little on the small size but very eye catching.

Lovely eye catching colour. Nice price too for sliver at under £6.00.
Just in case you cannot tell from the photo the stone setting is in a deep clasp style on the ear rather than flat.

I downloaded this whilst it was on a 99p special deal as the book plot sounded exciting. Unfortunately the story felt far too long and didn't hold my interest. A cast of characters are introduced, none of whom really get to know.
Perhaps the book more aimed at teenage readers, there are hardly any adult characters in this city, the teens seem to run the place!

2.0 out of 5 stars okay, 25 May 2014
Nix says when his father died his grandparents were nearly 70 so I imagined Nana to now be in her late 70's early 80's. Later in the book when Nana is telling a story she says she was 19 in 1969, which doesn't work, that would make her nearly 65 now! The writer obviously forgot Nana's age as wanted to tie in with Woodstock. The dementia storyline could have worked with Nana being a 'young' grandmother as dementia can strike at any age.

Divergent (Divergent Trilogy, Book 1)
Divergent (Divergent Trilogy, Book 1)
Price: £3.32

Beatrice lives with her family in a faction called Abnegation, her father is one of the leaders. The people who live there are selfless but Beatrice isn't sure she really belongs unlike her brother. Beatrice and her brother are about to take their faction tests the results of which will show to which faction they have the best aptitude. Its a big decision at 16 as their choices may mean leaving their family behind forever.
The book was very fast paced, it was a liitle confusing working out what all the different factions meant, but no matter as in the book we mainly focus on around two.
There was a noticeable absence of adult characters for the majority of the book, it seemed strange that Tris's training was undertaken by a team of older teenagers rather than someone more experienced. Tris's training was certainly brutal at times, no passes for being of short stature or a girl!
The book certainly had a lot of surprises and does not stick to what you might expect in a teen read, Tris faces many struggles and difficult decisions on her journey.

3.0 out of 5 stars very different to first book, 6 April 2014
The book begins with the group at the lodge. Riley is trying, and failing, to learn to ride a motorbike so with a brief idea of what the book was about I expected the characters to set off on their journey. Instead we had a long wait with more of a fun and romantic storyline which I guess was to show readers how strong Riley and Connor's relationship has become.
The first book was about trying to deal with what had happened in the world, survival and working out who to trust. This book was very different as some of the characters split off for a rescue mission. Riley's also goes all out for revenge which whilst she has to defend herself all seems a bit of a 'Rambo rampage' - didn't enjoy this part of the storyline. We still have the ghostly visitors too. The closing part of the book won me round and I will want to find out what happens to Riley.

The prom, the date and a whole lot of laxatives!
The prom, the date and a whole lot of laxatives!
Price: £1.53

4.0 out of 5 stars teen read, 6 April 2014
After Alex is set up for humiliation by the most popular girl in school, Kitty Vickers, she vows revenge. The problem is every plan Alex and her friends come up with seems to end in Kitty's favour! Alex also has to deal with problems at home and with boys (of course).
I downloaded this book whilst free because of the unusual title. This is the sort of book I would have enjoyed reading as a teenager.

4.0 out of 5 stars teen vampire read with a difference, 12 Mar 2014
This review is from: Only Human (Kindle Edition)
Aecia is given a diary for her 14th birthday, she treats her diary as a person and confides all her fears about growing up. Only she has much to worry about it is the year 3012 and whilst she is human everyone she knows, even her parents, are vampires. Aecia wears contacts to conceal her eyes and whilst at school drinks blood, though it makes her ill.
Two events change Aecia's life, firstly she meets someone who she thinks could be human too, then the school trip causes her to have to leave her 'normal' life behind.
Aecia needs to work out if those around her are friends or enemies.
I downloaded this as a free read a while ago but would recommend as a teenage read. The many unusual creatures we meet on the journey will appeal to younger readers.

A Street Cat Named Bob: How one man and his cat found hope on the streets
A Street Cat Named Bob: How one man and his cat found hope on the streets
Price: £4.49

3.0 out of 5 stars bob the cat, 28 Jan 2014
The writing style is of an 'easy' read. I downloaded this when it was on a 99p sale. Cat owners will enjoy the story of Bob who is a very clever cat. I can see why there is a childrens version as James tells us of his drug addiction and trying to get his life back on track. Bob certainly helps attract a crowd whilst he busks, and later sells the Big Issue, but not always the right sort as we find in their story.
