4.0 out of 5 stars It works! Good value for money, 3 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I took a punt on this given that it is so cheap. I wasn't expecting much, but it works great.

As others have said, it is huge! It fits even my largest of flashes, but does look a bit out of place on the smaller ones. Fitting is easy with a velcro strap and the pre-installed velcro tabs on the grid, though it takes a little bit of fiddling sometimes to get it all lined up simply because the grid is so much bigger than the flash unit.

It's cheap, it's not going to last forever, but I don't use it all that often and it makes a great alternative to spending a lot more on one of the main manufacturers who make this type of accessory for speedlights. Especially good if you're only going to use it occasionally.

I've used it on a stand high up with the speedlight pointing almost vertically and not had any issue with the band slipping of the grid falling off. I might just go for the 1/8in version as well on the basis of getting this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very substantial, good quality product, 3 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've had a few of these type of things, they are usually plastic, usually break - I've even broken some of the metal ones!

The only piece of plastic on this Manfrotto adapter is the screw handle for the stand and umbrella mount, but even they are top quality strong plastic and I have no fears of it breaking at all.

Be aware though that this is HEAVY! It isn't a lightweight bit of kit to be carried around everywhere, if you've got three stands and three of these, you're soon going to know about it! The upside to that though is that it will last forever and you won't be buying three or four replacements as you do with the cheaper versions. The others might be half of even a third of the price, but when you have to replace them for the second and third time, you might as well just have bought the best to start with!

It comes with the two plugs shown in the photo on Amazon, which are useful and have all the necessary standard sized studs or screws that you may need for lighting, meaning you can fit it to pretty much anything!

It clamps up easily with the large handles making it easy to tighten and loosen off again afterwards, all with a good solid positive feel and no wobble, strong enough to hold even the largest of umbrellas or softboxes.

A great bit of quality kit, highly recommended if you're going to use this type of adapter more than about twice a year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly powerful computer for such a small size. Top quality., 3 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'd been looking for a desktop Mac to compliment my MacBook and initially was looking at the iMac, having had one previously I know just how great they are, but what concerns me with the iMacs is that when you want to upgrade you have to change the entire system, screen and all! For about the same price, you can buy the Mac Mini and a 27in Thunderbolt screen, giving you pretty much the same identical system, but with the advantage of being able to upgrade the main computer unit at a later date without having to get rid of your monitor, which proves to be very cost saving!

As with any Mac, it was up and running within minutes of me getting it out of the box and I was away and working with all my applications downloaded / installed in minutes ready to get to work! It comes with Mountain Lion installed, although it needed the latest update, that didn't take long to do.

The inclusion of USB 3.0 on the latest version of the Mac Mini is a huge bonus and allowed me to add a large capacity external hard drive for much more storage space for all my photo and video library, yet it still copies files as quickly as having the drive mounted internally. You can use the Thunderbolt port to add external storage, but prices are still very high for Thunderbolt enabled devices compared to USB 3.0 and the advantages are limited given hard drives can't get anywhere near the USB 3.0 data transfer limit. The one great thing about Thunderbolt is that with the Apple 27in Thunderbolt monitor, it acts as a hub for your other devices with more Thunderbolt and USB ports, not to mention the speakers and a built-in webcam, all of which get configured automatically once you plug it in.

I've upgraded this with an SSD myself, it is a bit fiddly to get to the hard drive be honest but well worth it in terms of performance boost. I wouldn't recommend doing it if you're an absolute beginner as there is the potential to damage the internals, but I also wouldn't recommend paying Apple's prices for their own SSD upgrades!

With the SSD it now sits there almost silently and because it is so small it can be hidden away off the desk. You can get a 3rd party caddy that screws under the desk to hold it in, which is a nice neat solution. With an HDMI port on the back you can easily hook up two monitors - one via the Thunderbolt port and one via the HDMI and it sorts everything out automatically for you with no effort required configuring anything.

A quality product as you'd expect from Apple. Well worth considering against an iMac - though I realise the new iMac's are super thin and look very cool! I'm hoping that Apple will update the 27in display soon to the new thinner model they have on the 27in iMac.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Quality SSD Drive - installed on a 2012 Mac Mini, 3 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've had a few SSD drives over the past couple of years. They boost the speed of your machine by way more than any other upgrade. If you're thinking about buying more RAM, forget it - get one of these and use it as your system drive. Don't worry about it being relatively small capacity, buy a large USB 3.0 external hard drive and keep all your data on there if you need that much space. Alternatively the larger 256 and 512Gb versions are getting surprisingly cheap.

I put this in my 2012 Mac Mini and it gives a read/write performance of around 350Mb/s and 450Mb/s respectively. Apparently the newer 840 model is actually slower, so get these older models whilst you can!

It's very solid, a full metal chassis and with the notebook kit you get a handy lead so you can clone your system drive onto it before installing it, which means you don't have to re-install your whole system and applications again.

BEWARE however that the supplied copy of Norton Ghost is **PC ONLY** - it WON'T work on the MAC - Something that isn't mentioned in the description. Not that you actually need it for a Mac anyway because the Mac has the built-in Disc Utility that allows you to clone a drive (do a search if you don't know how). Just be sure to re-size your existing system partition to smaller than the SSD you're installing otherwise the clone won't work.

All in all, a highly recommended bit of kit that will give any system a huge boost. Mac boot-up times fall from around 40s to around 12s with an SSD! Programs load pretty much instantly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic softbox. Solid and well built, worthy competitor to more expensive ones., 27 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Given the price I wasn't expecting much from this softbox. Well was I surprised! It's easily a match for the Lastolite version and when I need a second one I'll be going straight for another of these - shame they don't do a bigger version! It comes packed inside a nice little bag with the softbox within its own additional bag to hold it flat and stop it popping up.

The fixings are all metal - I was expecting plastic at the price - and are very solid with a nice big solid ball joint to allow the box to rotate and tilt to pretty much any angle your stand can manage. The flash bracket takes both my smaller speedlight and my larger ones and is nicely adjustable. I have it with a wireless trigger fitted to the hotshoe of the speedlight and can still easily make the speedlight line up.

It isn't overly light, but it could be handheld by an assistant - although it would be better with a little grip handle.

The inner lining of the softbox is silver. It is very easy to put up, although getting the inner diffuser panel attachments could have been made easier, but at least once they are on it stays in place. The outer diffuser is held in place firmly with velcro.

The only downside I can think of is that unlike the Lastolite version, there isn't an optional grid you can buy for it, but I'm betting that the 54/60cm Lastolite version will fit with a bit of sticky velcro as the sides of the softbox overlap the front.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous images, amazing camera, 27 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This camera produces beautifully rendered images, especially portraits - despite the focal length not being ideal for that use. Images are crisp, sharp with great contrast and depth of colours.

The new firmware (v1.2) is a huge improvement and AF is now finally useable in the real-world! Along with other additional features and modifications, v1.2 firmware makes the camera far more friendly than before.

I've recently changed this review to reflect the fact that Fuji have resolved the problem with the aperture blades that would make them 'stick' in earlier models.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money, 14 Sept. 2011
Countering the negative reviews, I have a Mac running OS.X Lion - which having just been released I expected not to be supported, but I went to the website, downloaded the software and it works great. Not too keen on the webpage interface rather than a separate piece of software like the old TomTomHOME, but updated the device and downloaded the new maps, all installed without a hitch and with minimum of fuss.

Easy to use, seems to work well on route, pretty much like every other TomTom!

Downsides to this device
The USB lead is quite short for in car use depending on the placement of your vehicles cigarette lighter socket and where you want to put it in the screen - though I imagine this isn't limited to the Start 25.
There is no Quick Fix on this system, so it can take several minutes to lock onto the satellites - it does ask you when planning a route if you want to start from the last known point, but that isn't much use if you want to set off immediately. You just have to remember to boot it up as soon as you get in the car before you do anything, otherwise you can be in for quite a wait before you can set off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice remote, shame it doesn't work with the E-PL1., 20 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is quite a nice piece of kit, easy to use and had LED's to let you know it is working.

I bought it on the off-chance that it would work with the Olympus E-PL1 as it has the same connector, but FYI it doesn't work with that camera! Other than that, I can recommend it for compatible cameras, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value USB hub that works!, 30 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a good value USB hub that works great on my Mac's, particularly the iMac, where having the USB ports around the back can be a bit of a pain, the cable is not too long so it doesn't become a pain, but long enough to reach nicely around to the front of the screen.

I like the placement of the USB ports, they are spaced out enough so that they don't interfere with each other when plugging in larger USB devices, and the one on the front end is in a really useful position for leaving something like a card reader permanently attached. The upright ports are also good because if you have a 3G USB key, it means the antenna can be positioned vertically, which often gives better signal strength.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality product that works!, 30 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's a USB ethernet adapter - it's good quality, it works, what else do you want?!

Comes with a nice cable tidy that connects both ends together so they don't get damaged or dirty when being transported, which is a nice touch.

P.S. This can be used with any Mac, not just the MacBook Air.
