4.0 out of 5 stars Good comeback album., 4 Jan. 2009
Changing a band member can be a very risky thing to do and to carry on with the band name can be like digging your own grave. When that member change is your vocalist however things can take a turn for the worse or improve. When Brett scallions left Fuel we all thought it would be the end but they found a good replacement who quite impressively sounds just like the previous singer. Changing their sound would have been a step too far and thankfully the Fuel sound remains intact. Good driving hard rock with enough melodies and furious riffs for any rock fan. Impressive comeback for a band we thought would be long gone.

4.0 out of 5 stars 30 seconds and your hooked!, 4 May 2007
This review is from: A Beautiful Lie (Audio CD)
So much has been written about the 'Hollywood star' connection so lets dispence with all that crap and focus on the band and music. I've been lucky enough to have been listening to this album for over a year having bought it in America the day it came out, and what a cracker it is. Kicking off with Attack this draws you in with some amazing vocals and a fantastic driving song(just watch your speed). Not wanting to really use the Emo tag this album cannot get more emotional if it tried on tracks The kill and From yesterday with Jared screaming his lungs dry. I found the best way to describe them was if you were to put U2, Depeche Mode, and Motorhead in a room to duke it out the surviving members would form 30 Seconds to mars. Great album hope the hype does not break them up, an album that will certainly help you work, rest and play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now I've 'Got it!!!!", 4 May 2007
Let's get a few points cleared up before we start. I bought all of Mastodon's albums when they came out and thought they were good slabs of crunching metal, but nothing seemed to click if you know what I mean. All that changed after I saw them live.... They were about the best band I've ever seen, full of power great musicianship and I then suddenly 'got it'. Blood mountain is one of the top ten must have albums to own before you die, powerful, catchy, with meaningfull lyrics and a sound all of their own. This has set the standard for all other metal bands and what a high standard it is , which can only be a positive thing for the metal fan. Mastodon, catch them live at any cost and I asure you will be a fan forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hinder kicked my ass!!!!!!!, 1 Oct. 2006
Oh how I hate those long flights across the pond coz it always ends up with the purchase of 20 plus CD's. Hinder was yet again an accidental purchase having to wait for the girlfriend in a book shop I picked up a set of headphones and listened to this fantastic sounding old school rock band. Hailing from Canada they seem to have the knack to write great songs like Nickleback and the like. This is a permanent resident in my car, music to drive to nice and loud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fozzy shock you out of the ring!, 1 Oct. 2006
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
How did I find this album escapes me now but what a shock I recieved when I did. 'But this is that wrestler bloke' I hear you shout 'Chris jerico'and you would be correct, the man does have more than one string to his bow. Fantastic bang your head tap your foot rock and metal for everyone. Surprising killer hooks and melodies and he's also managed to get Zakk Wylde on board for a couple of tracks, buy this and be thankful you did it blows away lots of other mediocre releases by veteran bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dirt...it 'aint pretty., 12 Sept. 2006
What a fantastic ,funny, heartbreaking and thoughtfull look at the glamorous and sometimes seedy world of rock 'n roll. Having grown up listening to and reading about all the rock bands of this era the story of Motley Crue was one story that had to be told. O.K you don't have to appreciate the music to get drawn into the world of these rockers ,who, are still very much alive and kicking today. This book documents in their own words the way they struggled their way to the top and the constant fight to stay there with all their personal and narcotic distractions. Having read 'Tommy World' first I must highly recomend them both . A must read...... Can't wait for the film as the book has now been translated to a screen play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irish have the Answer!!!!!!!!!, 11 Sept. 2006
This review is from: Rise (Audio CD)
I would love to be the A & R man responsible for finding this fantastic Irish 4 piece. Yes this album smacks heavily of the seventies with a sway towards Zeppelin and Free but with an undescribable modern twist. If your a great band with lots of energy and catchy strong driving anthems like 'never too late' then your record company should be pretty chuffed to have you on board. The Answer are just that : The Answer to some of the mainstream nu metal emo crap that is being passed as music today. They are young ,not dumb and come across as a powerful rock blues british band. Having seen them support Alterbridge a few years back and then seeing them with Whitesnake I was impressed with the difference. The Answer long may you rein.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be huge!, 11 Sept. 2006
This review is from: Sleepwalker [Us Import] (Audio CD)
Very rarely do I find an album that keeps my finger off that ever so convienient 'skip' switch but Radford has come along and done just that. Not an easy band to categorise but that is to their advantage in my opinion as they can appeal to so many. OK it is predominatly rock music but this ticks so many boxes. Great vocals, melodies ,harmonies and just gets you there. Whether you want to rock out or sit and feel emotion pour out of your speakers this has it all. Sleepwalker is the second album by Radford with the self titled debut being released in 2000, if you find it get it. Apparently they supported Oasis on tour in the U.S what a mis-match. All killer and definatley no filler.

4.0 out of 5 stars Debut was no fluke., 10 Sept. 2006
This review is from: Us & Them (Audio CD)
Yet another band still to get a UK release is the fantastic Florida based Shinedown who, unlike so many U.S bands have stood the test of a debut album and come back just as strong if not a touch mellower with this their second release. Ok maybe not mellow but certainly something with a little more feeling. Having swiftly skipped 'The dream' Us and Them kicks off with 'Heroes' an angst strewn power fest to set the mood. Glad to hear that Brent's voice is as good if not better on this outing having found a comfortable range. If there was'nt enough angst for you they come right back with 'Save me' a sad and powerful story of drug addiction. Brent's voice sounding on top form and as I said full of feeling. A good all round performance with the catchy hooks and melodies you come to expect , crunching guitars and a booming powerful rhythm section. Things can only get better for these slaves to the road and lets hope that they come to the UK sooner rather than later. Also check out their U.S only DVD 'Live from the inside' Nice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong Debut from Nu-metal killers., 10 Sept. 2006
This review is from: The Autumn Effect (Audio CD)
Why this has'nt managed to get a UK release yet is beyond me. 10 Years have come on the scene when the market is saturated with Nu metal wanna be's. Early comparisons with Tool are justified and to be honest not a bad thing, the vocals sounding a little Maynard at times but who cares. A complete album is a rare thing to find these days with so many bands filling for time on their debuts but this is certainly not the case with 10 Years. From the haunting 'Waking up' the Autumn Effect kicks off to a strong start with subtle time changes and some drumming that sounds like Keith Moon reincarnated. Something for all, a little heavy and some well arranged acoustic stuff keeps the interest level up. The track that is my stand out is 'Wasteland' turn it on, turn it up and get out those air guitars. Fantastic debut, the benchmark has been set high.
