This was bought for a lively six year old boy for Christmas. The 5 jokes are horribly obvious and therefore go down incredibly well with young children and long-suffering adults. The fly-in-the-ice-cube, the whoopee cushion, the exploding stick of chewing gum.... The product was well packed and promptly delivered. It took several hours of comparing products to choose this, but it proved to be excellent value. However, my sympathies are totally with the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Butterfly Ball, 16 Jan. 2012

I first saw this beutifully illustrated book about 30 years ago. It is suitable for all ages upwards of 5 years old, if the parent wants to explain and discuss the lovely pictures. The animals are all going to a masked ball, and the costumes are extravagant and colourful. There is a fantasy piece about each creature. From there the child can follow its interest in British wildlife using the information given about each creature. A book to be treasured.

I read Cold Comfort Farm many yeaars ago and was convinced during the first chapter that the author was pulling my leg in some way, so I read on. It's still abook I read when I need a break or a good laugh, and I bought this for a Portuguese friend who loves all things English. I hope that she has a happy Christmas with it, just as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars For older children, 18 Sept. 2011

This review is from: A Christmas Carol (Hardcover)
I have bought several of these books for my older students and friends. The illustrations are stunning, especially the pop-up ghost of Christmas Present, and there are lots of little extras detailing the life of the times, such as Scrooge's "To Do" list for Christmas Day, a curtain which opens to reveal the ghosts of lost souls outside the window, newspaper snippets of the era, and a booklet of victoriab parlour games played at Christmas. One day I"ll even buy one to keep! For older children who love reading or history, or both, or who have patient parents, as there is a lot to learn, explain and enjoy in this book. I can't recommend it too highly.

The Miracle of the First Poinsettia: A Mexican Christmas Story
The Miracle of the First Poinsettia: A Mexican Christmas Story
by Joanne Oppenheim

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated, 18 Sept. 2011

This book is unusual, beautifully illustrated and most poignant. it tells the story of a Mexican girl who had no gift fot Baby Jesus ay Christmas, and how her offering was turned into a lovely bouquet of poinsettias. The pictures are colourful, the story simple and touching, and there is a song script at the end. It is a perfect present for a younger child, either to read or to be read to by a parent or teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars An uplifting experience., 18 Sept. 2011

This CD has been a firm favourite, constantly played over the Christmas period. The choir makes the most of the different carols, some soft and some lively. I chose this after listening to various CDs on line, as I found that some choirs are very monotonous. This is varied and great fun, buy it.

This is a lovely book to introduce younger children to this famous story. The text is clear and simple, the pictures are fun and suitably spooky, blending well with the sound effects. I have bought three of these for young foriegn children, and they love it. I expect that I will buy more in the future, money well spent. I highly recommend this book, together with almost any Usborne publication available!

This little book is ideal for youngsters who aren't keen readers as well as for those who are. Good for wet and cold winter nights indoors, especially if dad's a good story teller. But anyone will enjoy telling these short tales. Great value.
