Lost Highway
Lost Highway
Dvd
Offered by Lovefilm UK Limited
Price: £0.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Lynch, 16 Sep 2014
This review is from: Lost Highway (Blu-ray)
The first Psychogenic fugue movie (someone believing they are someone else, with a completely different identity)? A descent into a kind of circular hell in which the condemned man forever repeats his crime? A supernatural tale in which the devil claims a soul? The dream world of a man unable to face the consequences of what he has done? A description of madness? A story about a woman seducing a man into murder to avenge her own murder and/or the murder of her twin?

Could be all or none.

I loved it but if you like your movies straightforward don't watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this album!, 11 May 2013

Thea is one of the finest singer/songwriters working at the moment, and has been for some time. It's a mystery to me why she is not far better known - she should be considered a national treasure. Perhaps it is because she is an independant and does not have the big money behind her.

Joan Baez said she had been waiting for another songwriter like Bob Dylan to come along and has finally found it in Thea, and Thea is certainly in this class.

I have listened to this album a few times now (in fact, I have not been able to stop!) and think it is probably one of her best, if not the best. The songs are memorable and there are several killer tunes - highlights for me are the rocky "Let It Be Known" and "Spit and Shine" and the moving, almost country ballads "My Friend Goodbye" and 'This Road'.

Brilliant stuff, may Thea keep 'em coning for a long, long time....

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant product, brilliant customer service, 17 April 2013

These are top class quality soundwise, with very good sound detail and a lot of clarity. They have have good external noise exclusion, fit very comfortably and do not fall out.

I usually buy Senneheiser or Creative but these allways bust after about 3-6 months of use, so I was amazed to get 14 months out of these before they had a problem with sound cutting out on one phone. However, with the three year warranty I got a replcement in days with no fuss at all after contacting RHA via Amazon (I did not expect this!).

If all companies were this good at customer service the world would be a better place!

I cannot reccomend highly enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says..., 17 July 2012

It does what it says, have tried 3.5 in drives in both the IDE and standard slot and both have worked. The IDE connector is by cables at the front, so it's slightly less convenient than the 'drop-in' slot on the top. Also worth noting that I don't often change drives so have not given it a lot of hot swap action in the 4-5 months I've had it.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the on button seems to stick a little - which makes the build quality a bit suspect

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Game but DON'T BUY, 5 Jun 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: BioShock (PC DVD) (Video Game)
I bought this game about 1 year ago and played it through once and thought it was great - tried to install it on my new laptop and it will not install, in spite of a whole day of searching the net for solutions and trying everything.

Signed up to the helpdesk at 2k and accidentally checked the box that asks for posts to be e-mailed to me. In 12 hours there were around 20 people who had posted the 'server not available' problem when trying to install, and they had all bought the game new.

Apparrently 2k have been ignoring this problem for many months.

Customer care = We have got customers money and we really don't care...

Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America
Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America
by Robert Whitaker
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.34

5.0 out of 5 stars Considered, balanced and factual - also a good read..., 15 Mar 2012

This book uses research into psychiatric medication to explode the myth that has been jointly created by pharmacutical companies, psychiatrists, politicians and an all to willing public (i.e. us!) that mental ill health is caused by 'chemical imbalances in the brain' that medications 'put right'.

Don't think that, because the book is about the USA, it is not relevant to the UK and Europe - the book shows that this myth is promoted all over the 'developed' world, and the explosion of mental illness is happening everywhere that the medical view of mental health predominates.

It's very well written - even though it is about technical research the book is clear without dumbing down or missing out the salient facts.

A must for anyone interested in humanity, decency and accurate information on mental health...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great old fashioned horror, 9 Mar 2011
This is a very creepy film - it even makes the presence of an American 'star' as the lead hero (to please the USA audience, no doubt) an asset rather than a liability by pitting 'USA' materialism and rationality against ancient 'European' supernatural beliefs. A sound script building mounting unease, a scary villian and great moody visuals makes it a pleasure to watch. I first watched it as a kid and had to sleep with the lights on for a week!

Reccomended!

It's a complete mystery to me why Thea has not gained national treasure status, she's appreciated by Bruce Springsteen and Joan Baez, but serious success seems to have eluded her in spite of some critical acclaim.

I think she has been one of our best songwriters and performers for a long time, bringing out a steady stream of excellent albums, this being one of her best.

If you like folky rock music with literate lyrics and wordplay, and have not yet heard her, get this album now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing..., 4 Sep 2010
This review is from: Blood On The Tracks (Audio CD)
Quite simply, one of the greatest albums ever - Dylan remaking himself after having deliberately lowered everyone's expectations of him in the early 70's.

Every track is a winner, but Tangled up in Blue, well, there had never been a song quite like it, and it's unbeatable as an album opener.

Get it!

Clunky dialogue, melodramtic prose, a similar plot to all his other books, and dubious claims to scientific and historical accuracy, nonetheless, a good old holiday read (if you put your critical faculties on hold...)
