5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff., 13 Nov 2013

Unlike the version broadcast on British television
, this DVD has the performances from Miami, Isle of Fehmarn and New York pop festivals, along with a 1967 'Top of the Pops' appearance. The film is good, although I felt it didn't offer anything that hadn't already been said in previous films, most notably the 'South Bank' show a few years ago. All in all, worth buying for the 'bonus features' alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent gadget!, 13 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love apples in any shape or form, but find preparing them in any quantity a chore. This gadget works well, and has already earned its keep after only a few weeks. It is a Victorian invention, and the fact that it's still being manufactured to the same design speaks volumes regarding its usefulness. I don't give house room to useless 'labour saving' gadgets (and let's face it, so many do turn out to be more trouble than they're worth) but this device peels, cores and slices in one action, and is easily cleaned and stashed away until another pile of apples appear. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has a stupid design fault, and works sporadically!, 17 Mar 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have had several vacuum cleaners over the years, including two bagless types, and none of them have been as efficient as Henry! I had a 'Nuo' prior to Henry, and it was probably the worst vacuum I ever bought. The automatic cord rewind broke after two weeks, the hose constantly came away from the connector, and the filter had to be cleaned every time to maintain decent suction. Henry is so well designed, has amazing suction, a sensible manual cord rewind, a long, flexible hose that attaches securely by a screw thread, and extremely capacious dust bags. Added benefits are the dual power option, and its comparative quietness. The machine exudes an air of robustness that none of the previous vacuums came close to. The hose easily reaches ceiling height for catching any cobwebs, and the tools are simple, but practical. Incidentally, I have used a friends Dyson whilst house-sitting for a month, and I grew to hate it, it was cumbersome and hopelessly over designed, leading me to wonder whether the designers had ever actually attempted to vacuum a floor prior to making their drawings. Full marks to Numatic. Buy a Henry, it's a fabulous machine!

It is now two years since I wrote the above, glowing review. The vacuum cleaner now cuts out, and this is due to the cord rewind design. The live of the cord is connected to a circular track connected to the manual rewind, and this is now not making contact. I can 'switch' the machine on by jiggling the cable back and forth an inch or two, which is VERY irritating, given the age of the machine. I no longer wind the cord in, as it is this process that wears out the electrical contact. This is a stupid, cheap design fault in an otherwise good machine. I will disconnect the cord from this track, and bypass it altogether. Not impressed now that this has happened. If more time was spent on important design elements, and less on pointless anthropomorphic details this machine would merit my first review!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent product!, 4 Sep 2011

I actually bought this three tier cake cooler for drying small 'Jesmonite' resin casts on, and it proved to be an excellent buy. The casts were obviously heavier than three dozen cupcakes would be, but the rack coped with the extra weight admirably! The racks are very robust, constructed from a much heavier gauge of steel than I expected, and very reasonably priced given the quality. The racks are now washed and dried, with no signs of rust anywhere, and are ready to be used for what they were designed for. Yes, I can cook too, and although I shouldn't, I do make cakes, and in sufficient quantities to need all three tiers! All in all, a really good purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some commotion, but no emotion., 3 Oct 2010

This review is from: Emotion & Commotion (Audio CD)
I have been a Jeff Beck fan for many years, and have all of his albums. This album veers horribly towards Hank Marvin territory. Nessun Dorma and Somewhere Over the Rainbow don't belong on A Jeff Beck album, and their inclusion caused me to seriously question Jeff's musical taste. Much of the rest is frankly forgettable, and I have only played this album once since buying it on its release.
Joss Stone's singing is 'over the top' affectation. There is definitely some commotion on this album, but very little in the way of emotion. Jeff Beck can do better than this; I just wish that he had!

Not Necessarily Stoned, But Beautiful: The Making of "Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced" (Jimi Hendrix - The Vinyl Frontier)

1.0 out of 5 stars A dull book, written by someone who hasn't a clue about music., 11 Aug 2010
'Giggidunnit' has written an excellent review of this book, much of which I totally agree with, so I have little to add. The main irritation to me on reading this book was the all too obvious lack of musical knowledge displayed by Sean Egan; his few attempts at describing Hendrix's music in technical terms are laughably inept. Egan attempting this is akin to asking someone blind from birth to write about colour. Such an influential album as 'Are You Experienced' deserves better than this dreary recycling of lacklustre quotes, most of which Hendrix devotees have read a million times before in far more interesting books than this. Avoid this book, and read 'Electric Gypsy' instead.
