Dead Like Me - Season 2 [DVD]
Dead Like Me - Season 2 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Ellen Muth
Price: £13.80

5.0 out of 5 stars So good, 9 Nov 2014
Such a clever, witty series, Series two is as good as series one and I, like other reviewers am so disappointed there will be no more. All the characters are brilliantly developed and, worts and all (no holes barred with the language either) you can't help but love them. Episodes seem to have a faintly sad edge to them (well death ain't happy) and always makes you think. This series just goes to show how good American TV can be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak, 9 Nov 2014
This review is from: Home Time [DVD] (DVD)
Disappointing considering how funny Emma Fryer was in Phoneshop. Her character, Gaynor, who one assumes is the lead, here is uninterestering and irritating. All the supporting cast seem more well rounded, funnier and have better lines, especially Gaynor's mother. It was slow moving too and although an interesting concept, 30 year old single adult women not being able to let go of their past as 16 year old school girls, it is a failure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny but Series 1 better, 2 Nov 2014
Not as funny as the first series, some of the characters go a bit off line. However, some amusing laugh out loud moments and definately worth viewing if you have seen the first series. Megan Mullally is not as funny as hoped for but is a good character addition to the crew.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really for US market, 2 Nov 2014
Fairly interesting stories and quite diverse, especially the parachute hijacker DA Cooper tale. However, very much for the American market and so dumbed down a bit - lots of 'WOWs' and 'Awsomes' from the rather lame investigation team that is agog at nearly everything they are told. Brad Meltzer has a bit more depth and humour in his links and seems an interesting guy. Wet winter Sunday afternoon viewing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart funny series, 5 Oct 2014
This review is from: Party Down - Season 1 [DVD] (DVD)
Sophisticated, bitter sweet comedy series that moves at a languid pace allowing you to get to know the characters. I thought it amusing, cleverly written and well acted. Really felt for the character Ron trying to coax his misfit jobbing actors crew to take their 'food service industry' jobs seriously whislt dealing with their vacuous, messed up lives. Jane Lynch (Glee) was very funny and a little creepy in this first series (2009) and was replaced by another actress (who was also very funny) in the last two episodes. I wonder if Lynch left for Glee ? Looking forward to watching the second (and sadly last, it seems) series with Megan Mullally (Wiil and Grace's Karen).

Shirley's World - The Complete Series [DVD] [1971]
Shirley's World - The Complete Series [DVD] [1971]
Dvd ~ Shirley MacLaine
Price: £14.00

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak and dated, 5 Oct 2014
This is a weak series with poor story lines that are neither funny nor adventurous. A plump looking Shirley MacLaine tries hard, is sometimes a little gauche but is still a good actress compared to some of her co-stars. What is interesting is the early 1970's fashions, locations, set designs and spotting established and up and coming actors who are household names these days being given feature roles. One location, Japan, is milked somewhat with several nonsense episodes, probably to get value out of filming there. Maclaine did before this and after this much, much better stuff, so it remains an oddity in a stellar career.

Leon The Pig Farmer [DVD] [1993]
Leon The Pig Farmer [DVD] [1993]
Dvd ~ Mark Frankel

1.0 out of 5 stars Just not funny, 7 Sep 2014
This is just so not funny and even painful to watch. Lasted about 45 minutes then switched off. Embrassing performances fron Connie Booth and Brian Glover but Maryam d'Abo was the most convincing actor and that is saying something. Theme music was the best bit - pleasant catchy song which gets the one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars 80's TV at its peak, 7 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Brilliant nostalgic 80's TV as only America could produce. Dated now but episodes did touch on gtound breaking themes for the time, like drug abuse, homosexuality etc. Add a smattering of past famous film stars doing hammy appearences and it makes for good if sometimes tongue in cheek viewing.
